just do all 5 claps or bows first, and the change one by one depending on the clue.

Same reason darkest dungeon works, it's not scary, but it's pretty tense, at least at first when you don't know the encounters. You feel like you could lose the run on every fight.

Do you need to be pee-your-pants scared by every horror game? I just enjoy seeing cool creepy shit sometimes. My favorite scenario was the long-armed jelly-boned pervert apartment super.
My only complaint is that the game is too reliant on Junji Ito, to the point where nearly every encounter is a reference to his work.

Dead Space was never scary because you are given the most powerful "get the fuck out of trouble" tool, namely the Plasma Cutter. It's so fucking fun to use it quickly turns into a "you're stuck here with ME" scenario.

WoH isn't scary either but it doesn't have to be, it just needs more and more content because currently it's too easy to win by abusing certain strategies. If you get a Katana you've pretty much won.
