Anyway, ideally Smash could find a way to cut out all but Marth, Ike, and Robin. Demote Lucina to a skin, give Corrin's and Byleth's concepts to a character people give a shit about.
What "went wrong" is that they felt a need to use every game's sword lord for a rep.

I'm a normie and I could name everyone but Ness and Cap before I played Smash. I've played Smash a lot and still can't name a single nigger on the bottom except Marth because she's pretty.

Sakurai went on record to say a Fire Emblem slot was reserved for Brawl. Sakurai didn't even know what the protagonist was until IS told him it was a returning Ike.

I mean, to be fair, I'm pretty sure even Japan sees how ludicrous the count of FE reps to everyone else is. Not japanese characters overall, just Fire Emblem.

Punch-Out wasn't anywhere near as popular in Japan as it was in the US. In the US it's basically one of the best remembered NES games but in Japan it was mostly ignored. It would be like if Takamaru were added.

The same reason people in the west were upset about Hero, Punch Out is not a very well known franchise in Japan.

Nintendo has ALWAYS half-assed it with Smash Bros. Even back in Melee Ganondorf was supposed to be a real character, but they were too lazy and they added Roy whose game wasn't even released yet.

The only one with actual soul was the first game.

And it didn't get bad until very recently. Corrin, Chrom, two different skins/VAs for Ike, and Byleth are all like a bad extended joke. We didn't need this much attention on Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem characters wouldn't be an issue if they were more unique. Ignoring Marth;
