Metroid Fusion or Zero Mission?

They are both great but I prefer Fusion because I like the artstyle a little bit better.

Fusion is proto-Other M.

Metroid Pinball

Fusion feels better to play
Zero Mission is bigger and non-linear
both are good

Super > Fusion > ZM

Zero Mission is the best Metroid game so I'm going with that.

Fusion is great as it's own thing, but the lack of actual exploring really held it back

Zero Mission, easily. Fusion really isn't that good and I don't know why you fags keep pretending it is

As a kid I played Fusion more, but liked Zero just as much. Fusion was a little easier, but I loved the atmosphere, the story (even though I didn't know much Metroid lore at all), and I loved the biological aspect of her suit and situation. Also the first game I "speedran" for beating it under 2 hours on a car ride. Not to mention connecting it to my GC to get the Fusion suit in Prime. Still bummed they haven't made a 3D sequel at all, but especially continuing that point in the timeline.
Zero Mission gave me a good grounding in the Samus storyline, felt familiar to play after Fusion but distinct, and was really cool letting you play as ZSS.
Now I kind of want to replay them.

>Fusion was a little easier,
Lmao what? The combat in Fusion was much harder.

Idk, I haven't played them in years. I guess I'm just basing that off the fact that I, as a shitter, was able to beat it quickly as a kid, but not Zero. Probably just because I played Fusion a lot more and Zero only once or twice.

I'm emulating Zero Mission on my 3ds and I can't shinespark for some reason. Anyone know why this is?

ZM is a lot shorter than Fusion, that's why it can be beaten more quickly.

I didn't know that. I was saying I beat Fusion more quickly, but that's because I knew the layouts and goals better from repeat plays. I just remember stuff about Fusion more than ZM.

I thought both games could be beaten in 2 hours if you knew what you were doing.

Zero Mission is basically a watered down Super, even if it is still a pretty good game.
Fusion is entirely its own thing and does what it sets out to do well, so I'll go with Fusion.

Yeah I realise I misread now.

I'd say par times for casual speed runs are around 1:10/1:30 for ZM any%/100% and 1:30/2:00 for Fusion any%/100%.
2 hours is where both games give you bonus images during the endings, any way.

Zero Mission has a more fun speedrun.
But, Fusion has a great aesthetic and a bunch of cool ideas that deserve sequels

Fusion, at least it tries something new, Zero Mission is supposed to be a remake and can't even get that right.

>Watered down
I'd use the term "streamlined". It simplifies things while not sacrificing anything in exchange

>while not sacrificing anything
you'd have to be retarded to think this. I don't remember Super spawning in invincible enemies to block your progress until you get unrelated powerups.

Does Zero Mission do that? I really don't remember that at all

Yes, it's in the first room of Norfair. It blocks your exit from that room if you manage to bomb jump to the other side without the Power Grip.
You could also count the blocks that can only be shot after you collect the unknown items, if you like.
As an exploration game, ZM is much worse. There are downgrades in level design and physics/movement tech too. Equipment gates in Super can usually be circumvented with enough skill, unlike ZM where it's usually a matter of lock/key or just knowing where the magic invisible block that hides the shortcut is.

ZM>Fusion for me but both are great games

Fusion. ZM was good Sakamoto shoved some of his character ruining bullshit in there and that ruined it for me.

This

Shit I guess you are right. It's been years since I played, I guess I forgot about all that

>character ruining bullshit
like what?

Basically anything to do with the Zero suit. After the people who actually created Samus died or moved on to other things Sakamoto tried to make her into his waifu and changed basically everything about her including her morphology. Dude can direct OK (I'd have a higher opinion of him if it wasn't for his straight up dumbass demands like motion controls in Other M) but he's dogshit at characters.

>zm had character ruining bullshit
you mean fusion?

Based on what? There was stuff I didn't like in Fusion but ZM was straight up egregious.

This

Not him but Fusion did Samus right, in ZM, Sakamoto wanted Samus to have a weak moment so he removed her suit to do so. Samus staying in her suit in SR is a direct response to the ZM/OM backlash.

the dialogues between ai adam and the elevator monologues? do i need to remind you how awful those were and made samus look like a little bitch?

Fusion for actually challenging bosses, Zero Mission for everything else.

>do i need to remind you how awful those were
Actually yes, I don't remember that which is a good indicator that I erased it from my memory. It also probably means it wasn't terrible enough to sear itself into my mind.

>the dialogues between ai adam and the elevator monologues? do i need to remind you how awful those were and made samus look like a little bitch?
Didn't have a problem with them, I had a problem with her taking off her suit and hiding like a bitch from a Space Pirate when she's a superhuman, why would she even have a fucking taser gun anyway.

Those were fucking egregious, thank you for pointing that out. It's bad enough that the game actively locks you out of sequence breaking or non-linear exploration without also killing the pacing by forcing you through terrible dialogue between every single fucking zone.

Ok ill give you one. After computer adam tells samus she fucked up she bitches in the elevator
>The real Adam would have said the same thing about that incident, but he would have softened the blow. He was relentless in his criticism, but he always cared... He was not a machine obsessed with duty. No such compassion could exist in that computer...
these texts are so pointless and you cant skip or speed up if youre not playing on an emulator which makes it even more annoying when you replay the game.
We got two walls of text instead of fusions constant gameplay interruptions. It makes sense for samus to fuck up her very first mission while fusion is supposed to be samus whos been through all 1,2,3 and the prime games.
Also we got to see a nice ass so I can live with her bitching and moaning.
