The southern half of the first continent has so many blocked off areas and zones of just inaccessible trees. It's noticeably different from the northern half.
Also, I'd heard (possibly from a LARPer) that the Altissa region/that continent was supposed to be as fleshed out an exploreable as the first continent (well, the INTENDED first continent).
Development hell - it's a hell of a drug.
