Everyone should play the OG, but just know you gotta be a fan of turn based combat and its a bit cryptic on exactly where to go if you happen to miss the one time dialouge box. Take screencaps basically at every time a location is mentioned

The original but with a few quality of life/graphical mods on PC just because you can

"remake" makes no sense without playing the original since it's an alternate timeline sequel with characters from the future after the original game

Play the original and skip the remake for now, it's an unfinished product with questionable divergences.

FFVII:R is a sequel. It expects you to have played VII.

Honestly, a big part of me wanting to play the original comes down to the fact I just like the presentation better, despite how archaic and dated it is. Something about those fucking character models man.

I don't mind turn based RPGs, and I'm the type who is autistic enough to talk to every NPC, so I can deal.

I was thinking that, but also considering the Switch version just because it's so cheap and I can play a shitty low-res polygonal game on a widescreen.

because the nostalgia for the original is fucking huge and they know they can bait people into paying for a "remake" even when it's not a remake at all
it will probably never finished, knowing square enix. and yeah you can expect other parts to be full priced.

original. not only is it a classic game, but the remake is a semi-sequel of sorts that winks at players of the original every 5 second so you'll enjoy it more if you already know the original story

they have nothing to do with each other. play ff7 if you want to play ff7. it's not a "remake"

he's right. i've been replaying the game and there's some parts where the game doesn't tell you anything. like the section before getting the black materia. you need to go to the gold saucer, but to know that you need to get a hint from a guy in a remote village in the middle of fucking nowhere. the game doesn't give you any hints. you just have to wander around randomly until you stumble upon the village and have the guy tell you he sold the orb to the owner of gold saucer.
