The story is par for the jrpg course but the gameplay is pretty fun. I liked the original IMOQ series but GU definitely improved on the combat.
They made exp gain a bit too easy in the game though so you easily outlevel content.

Yes, it is a breach of social norms. It's why you introduce yourself and ask before you just invite yourself or someone to something, unless you know them already, in which it's likely just rude instead of weird to invite without asking. Dude I could solo sky gods with my RDM back when entire teams wiped against them.
I made millions of gil by taking advantage of the economy and made my own relic without anyone's help when nobody on the server had it. Knew every good mining spot like the palm of my hand. Had multiple NM sources with valuable drops to farm, most of which were not easily accessible even by experienced players. Never bought a gil.
Back then there was a sense of accomplishment in this stuff, now the game is little more than an inferior FFXIV.
Pre-Abyssea FFXI was the Dark Souls of MMOs and those days are long gone.

I'm just waiting on Blue Protocol to release. I don't remember ever disliking a big budget nip MMO so hopefully this one delivers. Hopefully I get into the beta.

Tried playing myself too playing it again last year, was pretty weird that there was only one starting island left and even that was overrun with undead. Too grindy for me to play anymore though, even though it's the comfy kind I like.
