Because for the most part they're written as shit. A perfect example outside of anime and games is Brienne of Tarth. In the books she's a warrior primarily due to her sheer size and to protect her husbando, whereas in the show she's just a raging feminist. One is well-written and the other is not.

I’m playing this for the first time now and can’t get her to marry me. I even lucked out and unlocked part 3 literally like 4 ingame days after clearing part 2 without even trying, but I can’t seem to trigger her events.
Also, I think I played the game wrong by rushing it a bit.
