What was the character model healthbar? I only know of the blood meter in the UI.

His handcuff changes color. You can also see long term effects on him in the safe room.
He'll have bruising lining with the straps if you over carry a lot.
Frostbite and blackening of his fingers and toes if you mess around in snow too much improperly geared.
There's also the toenail loss and bloody feet.
But the basic health indicated is shown on the handcuff changing color as you take damage. Also the BB pod changes color depending on BB's status too.
