>first day of game design class
>"what is your favorite game?"
>that kid that said Earthbound
First day of game design class
>that kid who says undertale
>game design class
>game design
>game design class
Going to a class is a waste of time. If you can't learn something from google and youtube or practical experience, then you are never going to make it anyway.
>game design class
what do they teach you about in video game universities
Everything not related to videogames' core.
identity politics
>Sid Meier's Colonization
>game design class
>boxing your creativity with some stupid game design "laws" and other bullshit
So this will be gaming in 2030...
>Assuming they actually teach you anything to constitute "boxing in"
They're extended youtube tutorials for game dev related software where you have to go somewhere and get feedback, with the added negative of grades and homework.
sounds like run-of-the-mill IT vocational shit then. Why is it even called a "game design" class?
Because a fool and their money are easily parted, and there's plenty of kiddies who grew up thinking "I want to make video games" and see "Game Design" in a university course list.
The good ones get actual game devs in to talk about shit sometimes, so that's something.
Having a good qualification is more important than being good
>Random kid who went to university, went through the course, but is still shit at making games. At least he has the paper.
vs.
>Random kid who said fuck that, had the drive to learn all he could on his own volition, and created some passable indie shit that was competently made.
Uh huh.
Not being a socially inept retard is even more important. You don't need skills or qualifications if you know people at that point.
If you want to roll the dice and try to be the .01% of people who manage to self publish a successful game with no professional experience then great; but for building an actual reliable career, you need a qualification to get hired in the first place
>Networking without college or an existing job
You can just start a convo with some guys who come in during your shift at Mcdonalds
>first day of advanced game design
>This slide pops up
>Uh huh.
it's true. no company will pick you out of thousands of literal whos to take a chance to test their time, because 99% of the time it will be a huge waste of time and money.
>Literal physical representation of skill and ability you can play right now, with care and passion that can only come from a drive to git gud.
>A cookie cutter class assignment similar to the dozens that came from the exact same class.
It's all bullshit anyway, it's all a game of "I know a guy" and worming yourself into the right social circles unless you're stupid lucky with getting hired.
do you think when recruiters or hiring managers go through stacks of hundreds or thousands of resumes meticulously pick through every one and look into everything submitted for each candidate? they go through a quick pass and will toss out well over half the stack at the slightest things they spot in those 3 seconds of skimming through each one. if you can't get through that initial culling you're going to be spending a ridiculous amount of time and effort to get someone to take a closer look at whatever you've produced.
>raise hand
>"yes user?"
>"You mean political as it pertains to the game's setting, right?"
>Get kicked out of the class
GAMEDESIGN CLASS HAHAHAHA
>game design class
Not in the slightest in the videogame industry. They tend to hire based on experience and portfolios
>hide redpills in the game
>plaster the rest of the game with SJW pandering
>run off with the kickstarter and patreonbux
Checkmate.
video game universities are compsci but you pay more and learn less
And this is why education is a product to consume.
>extra credit
>"leak" a patch that makes Postal 2 look like a joke
Exactly, which is why I said "unless you're stupid lucky with getting hired." Only way to get in without shear dumb luck after learning enough to not be 100% shit is to know a guy.
>Only way to get in without shear dumb luck after learning enough to not be 100% shit is to know a guy.
Where are you living that there's supposedly some huge surplus of IT related specialists?
