The evil sorceress is not Edea, it is a more evil time sorceress that is controlling her from another time period. She then controls Rinoa, forcing her to go on a suicidal space walk, which Rinoa survives because of magic. Then you go back in time and kill the time sorceress in her time castle. Also, all of the protagonists knew each other as kids but somehow meet again for the first time 10 years later.
But the cards are fun...

I heard they botched the translation with the "whatever" thing, but honestly, this isn't really that bad at all. I was told each "whatever" was a cut monologue. Was it just weebs overreacting because the translation wasn't 100% literal?

I don't care about VIII, it might as well be my least favorite game in the franchise's early years, but it would absolutely be goat if it included an extensive SeeD contracts sidequest modeled after XII's Clan Centurio where you travel all over the world looking for bounties and doing mercenary work.
In fact, you know what, screw VIII, give me a side game that takes place in VIII's setting where you spend the entire game dungeon crawling through various warzones doing mercenary work.
