Should honestly happen, two screens is more plausible with a higher-power portable system these days thanks to battery improvements (assuming nintendo doesn't bungle that)
Two screens will be a soft return to nintendo's risk-taking ideology though, i'd love to see more creativity in approaches to games again. Should be much cooler since nintendo's working so well with third parties now

clamshell design sounds terrible, it would be too big. I'd like more specifics of what the guy means by secondary display, i think the best fit would be a dock with standalone hardware that connects to the current switch

Why the hell would they ever go back to 2 screens? Hardly any game on DS, 3DS, or Wii U actually took advantage of the multiple screens to make unique games and most just dumped UI or maps on the second screen. Since Switch is 720p it has the resolution where it's no longer needed to dump those things on a separate screen since you can put them off in a corner instead.

If they go for a Switch lite kind of size then it wouldn't be substantially bigger than the 2DS XL. Nintendo seem to have conceded that docking was just another gimmick and are basically treating it like a handheld now, so I wouldn't be surprised if a third hardware revision was slightly smaller than the lite and clamshelled

Another example of Nintendo only giving a fuck about what Japan wants. In the West the use is almost exactly 50/50 docked and handheld, but in Japan it's mostly handheld and thus Switch Lite. But even there, people buy the Switch more unless there's nothing but Lites available. People like options.

But those are pretty much the same shit in a different package. Adding a screen to the switch would leave all of their user base needing a new console after 3 year just for a fucking screen. It'll never happen.

i mean, the switch has been doing gangbusters in japan since day 1, moreso than any other region

If you had a 3DSXL you could safely ignore the other versions. Hell a lot of people think that the XL screen is too big and stretches the image in an ugly way.

The docking was a gimmick that was also their way of cleverly killing off 3DS so that they can focus just on their Switch because Nintendo realized their non-shovelware output isn't enough anymore to sustain both a handheld and a home console. Now Switch is doing better and they're treading the waters again. But the Switch + whatever this new model will be desperately need some actually -new- entries in their IPs rather than shameless Wii U ports with Deluxe slapped on them. Doubt that will happen, unfortunately.
