Speculation thread

Speculation thread.

Do you think Square will ever make FFXVI? I mean, they stretched 13 into 3 games, they made another MMO main number title, and then made XV from the remains of a game that was supposed to release around the same time as 13. Is there something that's been in the works for a 16, or do you think we will just get FFVII remake as the main FF releases going forward for now?

What's there to speculate about if it's a dead franchise from a dead developer? It's like asking what the next big game from Activision Blizzard will be? Pathetic.

Fuck, I didn't think about it like that. That's genuinely depressing. So, moving into the future are we doomed to only have shallow AAA games or good indie games with mediocre scope and production quality?

More or less. Sometimes it's possible to have decent games with decent budget but those are extremely rare since they require an autistic director like Miyazaki, Kamiya or Yoko

They should take the capcom approach and try to release Final Fantasy yearly or some shit. Hell, maybe they could make an Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy rotation so it wouldn't get stale.
A whole generation passed and we got 1 mainline game and a incomplete remake.

Hoping for
>cute female main-char
>no dev hell like every ff since 12
>a full fledged story
>an interesting battle system not press circle(didn‘t played ff7:re but heard that it‘s good)
> good sidequests

>female main-char
only 1 game had this, and it was by far the worst in the series

6?

Well that game suffered from hd development, people making the game without any intern talk and casting old fags as 14 year olds. Ff13 story is clearly not finished and not being able to go back is annoying but otherwise it looks good, good bs, good difficulty (side missions).

We already know that they've given Yoshi-P the reigns on XVI.

give me
>crystals
>airships
>high fantasy
>amano character designs
>turn based
>protags that are neither fujobait nor the designer's waifu
fuck, I want to see amano's world and character designs on something more powerful than a super nintendo
why did fucking nomura get so popular within se

FFXVI is going to be their next MMO. FFXVII will be their next single player game, using the FFVII:R formula. Both will take over a decade to release.

As for what I want, they'll never do it. So there's no point writing it out. It's just going to be Nomura/Nojima garbage for the next four decades.

Haven't cared about FF since XIII really

Would Brave Exvius make for a decent final fantasy game if they just made the story into an actual game?

eventually yes but it could very easily be more than a decade away. by then, it may also be the next mmo. they could make remakes for the next 40 years if they wanted to, and vii isn't the only one that'd make big money

FFXVI is probably going to be announced this year, with expected release in 2024

FF7R-2 be out by winter 2021 as the majority of the work is done

The secret ending of KH3 is a new mobile game that will be one of two bridge games to KH4

They're gonna do a new Dissidia, due out in arcades. They will learn nothing from their mistakes

FFXIV's new xpac is announced this fall will be what they ride on for awhile until they have a workable demo for 16

FFXVI will be the combination of single player and multiplayer, FFXIV overworld is a waste of resources and the majority of content is done in instances so FFXIV will be based on that

i got bad news for you if you think square enix is doing anything other than vii remakes/spinoffs, kingdom hearts and mmo shit for the next 10-15 years

What I want:
>Produced and overseen by Yuji Horii
>Directed by Masato Kato
>Written by Yoshitaka Murayama
>Music by Revo and Masashi Hamauzu
>Jobs (like FFIII or V, not XII)
>Exploration
>Final Fantasy X true turn based combat system
>Animated designs rather than realism
>Mixture of Fantasy and Technology like in Final Fantasy V, VI and Chrono Trigger
>fun story and characters like Final Fantasy III or V
>doesn't take itself seriously, just focuses on being a fun adventure

What we'll get:
>Produced by Nomura
>Directed by Nomura
>Written by Nojima
>Music by Masashi Hamauzu
>Set classes
>Linear zones
>Final Fantasy XV combat
>trying even harder to imitate live action Hollywood movies
>100% scifi isekai
>overly serious story with Gundam level shitty plot twists and character "deaths"

Hopefully they are using Agni's Philosophy for 16. However seeing as how they haven't been able to make a single complete game since FF9 I think we'd have to all agree holding our breaths is pointless

They already are, Yoshi P is fronting it

the next FF will be a single-player version of XIV on an engine that doesn't suck cock

Stop! Stop! You're killing me! It hurts because a single player FFXIV with 90% of the filler quests removed would be the best FF game easily. And that's exactly why Square won't allow it to happen.

>Is there something that's been in the works for a 16
Yes, of course.
When they finish a FF project, the next thing is always in the works.
My gut tells me that we may have to wait until FFVII remake is told in its entirety.
But 16 is a thing, you can count on that.

Atb for ff16? persona 5 is proving that turn-based jrpgs are still relevant to normies

Controversial opinion, I hope we get X-3 so they can sort everything out in Spira. I love X, easily in my top 3 FF and my favorite world.
But it needs to be cleaned up and it needs a solid conclusion to Yuna and Tidu's story.

They probably have an amazing concept floating around (maybe Agni's philosophy), but they won't use it. Expect another project led by Toriyama or some other retard. Or in the very best case, someone actually starts making something interesting and then SE execs castrate the project entirely to appeal to the lowest common mong.

I wouldn't mind it as long as they actually got their happy ending with a minimum of drama, all that being for other characters. I worked damn hard to get those good endings twice. I don't want to have to work for third time being the charm; just have it be a given.

>maybe Agni's philosophy
I got a FF X meets FF VI feel from that tech demo, that would be cool.

honestly? i don't even know if i should even bother.
FF13 and KH has ruined them and made them turn every single goddamn entry into a franchise. The entire ff13 series was one of the biggest waste of time in gaming history and ever final fantasy 15 was a 13 spinoff before it got morphed.
And now they are trying to turn ff7 remake into another massive franchise.
If 16 ever comes out you can bet it's not gonna be a finished game, requiring to play like 10 other games on watch anims and mangas to get the full experience

If it's turn-based (it won't be) I really don't want ATB.

why?
not trying to be inflammatory, I just would like to hear why you prefer it

16 will at least be better than 13 and 15 but I'm not sure how much that's saying.

ATB is not turn based

menu based =\= turn based

the last turn based FF was 10

FFVII:R is being used as a reboot for the whole FF series. If it sells well, they'll make the next game in the same genre and with the same episodic formula. If it doesn't, they'll make some totally original new game. Sadly, because of the FFVII name, it's guaranteed to sell. So I hope you enjoy every FF game from now on being a gritty scifi/dystopian mess.

Square-Enix has some major issues in their production pipeline. They output games like companies were doing early last gen. Seems like everyone got their shit together and figured out a nice production and release schedule, but SE seems to be mired by inefficiency.

VIII remake is already soft-confirmed through XIV.

An incomplete remake that retroactively ruined all of the nostalgia circlejerking of their #1 entry and turned it into just another soulless rehash.

My hope is that while Nomura handles the FFVII remakes and whatever the fuck comes next for Kingdom hearts they give 16 to a a whole new team that does something crazy with it.

Give me something akin to 12 or 9.

That would be nice. He seems to be the only competent person working at SE right now. But who would be the creative talent behind it? Yoshi P is a fantastic manager, but who's gonna design this shit?

I want a game like Lost Odyssey but better graphics and a different combat system (no rings).

How hard should that be?

god I hope not. I've also heard rumors of a 6 remake. Which of all titles deserves it and needs it. But after finishing FF7R last night I can safely say they need to be kept away from their own shit at any cost

Slow and boring.

I agree with you fully. I feel like being cheated out of Y + T happy ending 2 times, 3 TIMES if you count the shitty book, is too much.
We need closure.

Post source. By your logic, Final Fantasy II should have gotten a remake because it got a bunch of references in ARR.

>FFXVI is probably going to be announced this year, with expected release in 2024
I'm going to be quite optimistic and say it's going to be released next year or in 2022. They have literally nothing next year. KH3 released last year, FF7R just a week ago, Mana next week and Horii said in an interview that DQ12 won't be releasing in a few years. Also, there is that rumor that say Yoshi-P is in charge of XVI.
>FF7R-2 be out by winter 2021 as the majority of the work is done
Could be. 1,5 years time is doable.
>The secret ending of KH3 is a new mobile game that will be one of two bridge games to KH4
No way Nomura's biggest ambition is going to be a mobile game. I'd say it's going to be a next-get title that runs with the Caribbean world or the secret episode graphics as they already have the assets and the engine and it looks really nice.
>They're gonna do a new Dissidia, due out in arcades. They will learn nothing from their mistakes
It's not really that popular in japanese arcades desu. Fate is more popular. A new arcade game will appear for sure, but it will be some sort of gacha. If they make another Dissidia (outsourced) maybe it's decent but I don't really have hope for this one.
>FFXIV's new xpac is announced this fall will be what they ride on for awhile until they have a workable demo for 16
Maybe

That's probably what will happen. In fact, I can see Yasue in charge of the KH series and Yoshi-P making XVI. Nomura will be busy with VIIR and Verum Rex for a while

>FF6
>the worst in the series
The fuck?

all they had to do was port Duodecim to PS4 and add a few new characters. It was the easiest setup in squeenix's history. Its like a kid striking out at T ball
