I bought this game instantly cause I love xcom 1 and 2. Customizing your troops is boring to me, I like the combat.
If there were any actual good tactics games out there I probably would think twice but there aren't.

phoenix point is fundamentally broken on a game play and mechanics level. the free aiming body parts shit often does not work or completely ignores 3 dimensional space. the game also runs like shit and is crash-prone.
the fact that that the game was made in unity and is an epic games exclusive are really the least of its problems.
in fact im pretty sure if they did not go epic exclusive and got that fortnite money they'd probably have sold much much less amids all the refunds that would have resulted from being served a barely functional game.
