Russian roulette

playing XCOM: EW

tips for gittin gud please? So far my "strategy" is just taking things slow cause enemies get a bullshit free turn when you find them. I rarely use dashing. Also trying to get armor and weapon updates before doing the story-related research on the lab.

The most important thing to learn for the harder difficulties is that half cover is no cover and should not trusted

nu-com has tons of clones

oh yeah I left that part out. Yep. I quickly learned half cover is worth less than the word of the Chinese Communist Party.

Original XCOM

XCOM 2.

Old XCOM: UFO Defense with the Final Mod Pack.

Depends on what extent, Mario Rabbids is pretty obviously inspired by XCOM, albeit simplified (you just have 0%,50% and 100% chances to hit) for example.

get a ranger with conceal, to reveal those pods of enemies first. theen you can set up with guys(who arent in conceal) with overwatch, trigger the pod and get a free turn of shooting at them. also theres a Crosshair icon on an enemis health bar, that indicates the space your mouse is hovering over has line of sight to the target(and can shoot it). research weapons first, as the damage increase is more important that more health

Playing this game right now and I can definitely recommend it. There's some issues with class and ability balancing but otherwise is fucking great. also for some reason all the DLC missions are labeled as "Easy" for some reason, even the boss.
Finished the DLC just earlier, the boss using Reanimation Protocol to come back stronger was both kino and scary as hell.

>bullshit free turn

If that feature didn't exist, the game would be too easy. You'd be able to destroy a pod the moment you see it since they're out of cover. There'd be virtually no challenge.

In XCOM 2, they only dash for cover when they see you. Most missions start your squad in concealment so you can set up ambushes.

Unirocanlly Mario Rabbids on the switch.

probably gears tactics

can anybody explain to me the appeal of this game? i dont usually like isometric or turn-based games but i got a feeling i will enjoy playing xcom

>If that feature didn't exist, the game would be too easy

yeah I am just a bit salty. I've accepted it as part of the rules, and I'm enjoying the game now that I've accommodated for it.

>In XCOM 2, they only dash for cover when they see you. Most missions start your squad in concealment so you can set up ambushes.

ooh, nice. I bought it recently but haven't installed it. Keep hearing I definitely don't wanna miss out on XCOM: EW, but going back from XCOM2 would be no fun.

Sorry, should have conditioned that the game needs to be adult, not for children.

I haven't played X-Com, but I've played similar games and I think a main hook for me is the sense of progression. You start off barely able to do shit, but as your dudes unlock new stuff you can directly feel in combat like new abilities, that's when it hits you. Plus coming up with strategies on how to hand units that gave you trouble and totally demolishing them is a great feeling.

how? the battles are the same mish mash of 4 units vs the world. the melee attacks looks like shit since you just hit them with your fists like cheap chinese made rockemsockem robots. im not even going to mention the ass story

Invisible Inc

i just beat XCOM 2 a couple weeks ago. its really addicting, you start really weak and if youre new to the game/genre you suck and get your ass whooped often. but slowly you complete missions and gain power/items and more knowledge of how the game works and youre success rate in missions starts going up. its a strategy game, you win or lose based on your decisions to how you manage the base building part of the game, your loadout, and how you move and engage with enemies, its really satisfying getting good

phoenix point

by far the biggest thing to improve your game is managing pod activations. You basically have to assume that any untraversed square can activate a killer pod, and manage your risk accordingly. Learning about how line of sight works helps

>most players lost their first playthroughs of nuXCOM
>devs decide to make that the canon ending
I always loved this. That and the fact they gave an in-lore explanation as to why you can savescum.

OpenXcom

no explanation as to why you can savescum in xcom 2 though

Any other games that give lore reasons for why you can try again after failing/dying? I'm on an ocd induced no deaths binge and I need to fucking escape.

Morrowind. And by extension, all TES games, I guess.

I already did morrowind, avoided dying anyway by playing smart with almsivi intervention. Anything else?
