Tales of the abyss

how the fuck were we supposed to figure the sidequests?!
>oh you finished this area? now go to the other side of the world to talk to x person
>if you dont go NOW you'll be locked out of this quest and also further quests that have this as a requirement

>how the fuck were we supposed to figure the sidequests?!
You weren't
>tales of the abyss
More like Tales of in general, it's one of the worst things about them. I think I got Tear's maid outfit and a couple scenes of Luke and Guy training and that's about it. Fuck doing the Sword of Gailardia quest in a first playthrough.

Yeah the sidequest missability is pretty dumb, it's better in the 3DS version though

>it's better in the 3DS version though
Isn't it the exact same?

They did this on purpose to sell guides in Japan. Everyone else used Gamefaqs.

the games are designed that you miss shit the first time through and stumble into them on NG+ (with all the bonuses you get at the grade shop) to give them more replay value. same reason why they always have difficulty modes that you can technically do on the first playthrough but the enemies stats are so inflated you need to seriously cheese the game in order to survive without boosted NG+ level up rates

>man jrpgs are always so linear and hand-holding compared to western rpgs
>what do you MEAN I missed half the sidequests? fuck this game how was I supposed to know

i think it's normal. it's one the way these RPGs encourage replayability
>Oh god I got through this 70-hour long game
>I missed like half of the fucking side content, damn.
1/2 years later:
>Do a second playthrough, this time with a fucking guide, as god intended.

On a serious note, wasn't Abyss's story complete shit? I completed it thinking that it was just a fucking disaster. Akzeriuth is just uncomfortable, Anise's betrayal comes out of nowhere and is ignored 30 minutes after it happened, and Luke just goes from being an insufferable prick to being just another Lloyd. I still liked the game and some interactions, but the writing was subpar at best.

the story in this game requires that everyone present avoid doing things that make sense and would be simple in order to do what they end up going with instead - the sidequests are just reflecting this mindset.
much like how if asch just went home he could've completely derailed all of vans plans but instead fucked around the whole world, in order to get sidequests luke has to avoid going to the nearby location he has to go to further the plot and instead fuck around on some other continent entirely. it's deep

>On a serious note, wasn't Abyss's story complete shit?
No, it's the perfect pleb filter

please explain why anise feels like selling out the party (and ion) just because she needs money to save her parents when she's friends with the direct sucessor of one of the two kings that rules half the world (and their fiance) and the best friend of the other king who can make pretty much any demand and it'll work.
luke is willing to use the fon fabre money to buy fucking sword books but they couldn't pay off her parents?

Abyss' story is god-tier and hands down the best in any jrpg. The Akzeriuth scene is the ultimate brianlet filter for socially retarded people.
The party never once blames Luke for getting tricked by Van. They don't give him *any* shit initially. Watch the scene again. Nobody could have predicted that, even Tear who was suspicious of Van didn't think he'd go that far. It's only after Luke starts sperging out when they have a real problem and they're not even sure if they'll survive the next 20 minutes do they decide to drop him.
Just like real life, when a disastrous problem arises, you have to work with who's there to fix that shit ASAP or you're fucked. But if during this critical phase someone starts pointing fingers and singing about whose fault it is or isn't, they're not helping the immediate cause and have proven themselves useless to mature discussion.
If you weren't capable of seeing the scene on this level (and it's hardly some high IQ stuff) you're genuinely socially retarded and got filtered. You're literally Luke in that scene going "omgg why is everyone meeaannnn :( I dindu nuffin!"

>please spoonfeed me

Who the fuck wants to do 70 hours of walking back and forth between the same 5 towns *a second time*

God this series fell to shit after Eternia

So you can't actually defend abyss writing? Good to know.

except that tear and especially jade KNOW that luke has the mental maturity of a 7 year old, they KNOW that van is up to no good, they should have a pretty good idea about hyper resonance

and they just fucking leave him to hang out with van anyway instead of watching him like a hawk. Jade you can almost justify under "huge piece of shit that doesn't give a fuck about anything", but tear?

one of the big failing of abyss is that it has a lot of great ideas but then it tries to have it's cake and eat it to. it wants to have these party members who are very nuanced and capable compared to your typical jrpg/previous tales game, but then it also still has pretty much the exact same structure as any jrpg. so this means that all of these seemingly very competent/mature characters still stand around like retards so that shocking plot twists can happen to them and act in a very passive/reactive manner like in any other rpg, only it makes less sense when it's characters who've been around the block already instead of teenagers from a backwater village

"I'm afraid of women because of an experience as a kid where i got trapped in explosion under a pile of my dead lady caretakers"
"haha what an idiot get a load of this guy let's move on"

Don't even get me started on all of the shitty padding and invented nonsense vocabulary all for a story with nothing to actually say. I'm glad you feel smart for liking it though!

Although I'll admit Anise is the weakest character in the main cast, at that point money didn't matter and Mohs had absolute control over her retarded overly devoted to religion parents. What may have started out as money-related blackmail became even easier for Mohs once he realized how much power he held. At that point Anise knew too that no amount of money would sway her parents away from the Church, but she kept giving "protection money" to Mohs anyway because either way she didn't want to risk the lives of her parents. Yeah she was dumb about it, but it's what she did

remember in abyss when jade gets hit by a magic box that seals all his power so that he conveniently undoes the sealing at the same rate the rest of the group levels up normally - something only jade can do because he's an autistic prodigy?
Why did they never throw one of those again? Was that the only one? How come? I don't know because the game never explains it despite having 500 skits entirely to explain minor details like this and constantly wasting proper cutscene time on Fonons and Fonic Hyms And Fonstones and Fon-fons the candy and all this other "magic but we make it sound like science but it's just magic and does whatever" bullshit

>"I'm afraid of women because of an experience as a kid where i got trapped in explosion under a pile of my dead lady caretakers"
>"haha what an idiot get a load of this guy let's move on"
Except this never fucking happens you absolute fucking shitposter, they joke about it BEFORE finding out where the phobia comes from.
>he was filtered by the word Fon

Attached: images.jpg (225x225, 8.13K)

This is every Tales game. They're packed with missables based on some extremely obsucre/obtuse shit for some reason. Honestly, fuck Baba.

>you have to be a frogposter to think tales of the abyss is a good game
lmfao

remember when asch spent the whole game being mad that luke and van stole his life, and then instead of just showing up to his parents and saying "hey I'm still alive" - something that would also fuck up vans plans, he instead sometimes worked for van anyway and other times just fucked around doing nothing in particular?

>"haha what an idiot get a load of this guy let's move on"
Nobody says this to Guy after he tells them his story, they're all pretty shaken up by it

>Don't even get me started on all of the shitty padding and invented nonsense vocabulary
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh my god, jrpg terms were too much for your pea brain? It was the most plainly explained stuff and you still didn't get it. Does the word "fonon" scare you? A literal jrpg plot, a genre full of heavy handed symbolism and themes, still managed to be too complicated for you just because it had 1 or 2 things different from genre standards? Lmao, holy shit, I knew jrpg weebs were dumb but this is something else

remember in tales of the abyss when the only god general the party kills themselves was the little girl who was literally raised by wolves that was being blatantly manipulated by the villians, instead of the adults who know what they were getting into?

>people think Tales of the Abyss is well written
the only thing it has going for it is that the case isnt all "yippie skippy we are all friends" generic bullshit.

Jade's an autistic dipshit. Abyss is my favorite Tales game, but holy shit. He somehow Mary Sues some grand prodigy bullshit whenever it's convenient and bullies Luke endlessly despite the fact he knows Luke's past.

I would have loved for him to die near the end in some kind of pride before the fall moment, but alas everyone loves the guy who's a know it all asshole!

Remember how tales of the abyss's entire ending anime cutscene is impossible to understand fully unless you do the contamination event sidequests, which are very easy to miss permanantly, because for some reason they didn't bother to make that part of the actual story scenes

I understood everything it was just bad. Abyss was the beginning of the absolute worst of late-era Tales and we're never gonna get a genuine classic like the first few games again.

No you got filtered by based Luke fon Fabre

>bullies Luke endlessly
Oh yeah, look at this psychopath
youtu.be/dG984F9pHS8

do you recall the events in tales of the abyss where luke is mentally 7 years old and spent most of that time learning "his parents faces" and other absolute basics of living

and then the game forgets all that setup 30 hours later so that his romantic relationship with tear isn't creppy as shit?

>envelope

Pre-Symphonia Tales was for Gen X weebs who think shit like magical girl anime and slayers is good because it had the art style they grew up with.

Post-Symphonia is mindless shit that leans way to hard into Shonen for the Bleach/Naruto/My Hero Academia generation.

There's a handful of good Tales games in spite of Baba

>he didn't understand the ending for the game
Wow, so all this shitposting really IS because you were filtered huh. Did you really miss Asch dying, Lorelei's dialogue, Asch's hand twitching, Luke disappearing, coming back in the flowers, the voice, the position of the Key... etc.? I mean, damn.

>1-2 years
i played abyss like 7 years ago and i still dont want to replay it

>poor me. I'm an autistic sociopath

very cool game tales of the abyss where it only has 6 party members, but one of them is useless and the other is just a slower and shitter version of the other one so everyone just uses the same four characters the whole game

>then instead of just showing up to his parents and saying "hey I'm still alive"
He was kidnapped as like a 9 year old or something. By the time he was old enough to move freely and think for himself, many years has passed and the ship had sailed, he already resented his parents for being oblivious and raising a retard clone in his place for that long and going along with it like it's fine. It was too late. Besides later in the game he pretty much DOES go up to them and do that anyway once more plot has happened.
But of course, I didn't think you'd be capable of paying attention to the story even when it's so plainly stated. How can one game filter someone this hard lol

Attached: doghouse.png (512x384, 24.41K)

Years in Auldrant last 765 days though

Tales games have some of the most notorious missable side quests I know. Fucking need a guide for that crap.

The 3D games up until like Graces did a very bad job of actually making more than a handful of characters appealing in battle

>I'm an autistic sociopath
He literally is

Attached: autistic kid.jpg (478x270, 16.87K)

That still puts him at about 14-15 years which is statutory

>filtered by Fon terms
lmao so it really is true, Abyss is a high IQ game that filters retards

Attached: Fon_Belt_Construction_Diagram.jpg (1177x898, 319.21K)

irrelevant background detail given that the game treats luke as a child who doesn't even understand what money is until suddenly he cuts his hair and he's magically an adult now.
>By the time he was old enough to move freely and think for himself, many years has passed and the ship had sailed
That doesn't make any sense. Even if somehow his parents would no longer care for him, showing up would still heavily fuck up vans plans. If he hates his parents and luke so much, why doesn't he fucking kill them? If tear can sneak into the mansion, someone who looks IDENTICAL to a family member couldn't?

>Abyss' story is god-tier and hands down the best in any jrpg.
LMAO not even the best in its own series

It's the best Tales story in a series full of mediocre to shit stories. What can you possibly think is better?

blatantly untrue, you have a reason to use pretty much every party member in symphonia (the most useless one is genis, but even then he has the nicue of cool looking/sometimes useful big dick spells)
meanwhile luke is just worse than guy in every possible aspect, and natalia is a worse healer than tear with nerfed buffs and instead of combat spells she has a bow (only because of this games fucked up enemy stats for physical defence combined with her low attack stat, she's going to do literally 1 damage against many bosses on difficulties above normal most of the time unless you seriously minmax/grind)

>there are people in 2020 who remain filtered by the only truly great Tales game
Oh no no no no ahahahahahahahaha

The plot, character development and lore are delivered in the clearest manner possible and people are STILL mad that party members were meanie booboo heads to them and fonon words too big make brain hurty

Attached: for everyone saying %22Jade could have stopped it%22 or %22why were they mad at Luke%22.jpg (2936x1156, 694.14K)

So when it doesn't conform to your argument it's irrelevant? k
