Now that the dust has settled which has CTR dethroned MK as the definitive kart racer? Or was it always the definitive kart racer?

30fps vs 60fps

Its Mario Kart because its easier to pick up and play, which is the point of kart racers. People might come over for a party and they'll want to play Mario Kart over Crash Team racing.

the one without microtransaction

Mario Kart will still probably be the "definitive" kart racer just due to sheer branding and the game being much more easier and made for a wider audience.

That said, as someone that never gave a shit about Crash or played the original kart game, CTR blows MK out of the water and is easily one of the best kart racers I've ever played. Both are great though and I hope the competition between the two will inspire to up their game.

The one thing we can all agree is that STR sucks.

Still plays really well despite that.

MK is for kids and CTR is for skilled adults.

I prefer CTR since it feels faster and a bit more technical. But I do like MK and can throw it on when my sister comes to hang out and we can play it easily enough since she's not super good at video games.

I don't think anything in this world can overcome Nintendo brand loyalty.

MK only because its online isn't total shit

They aren't for the same audience. Mario Kart is a really good casual kart racer easy to pick up for newcomers, while Crash Team Racing is more complex and requires more skill to play. Both are very good and we really should stop throwing shit at each other because we finally have at least these two to pick from.

I don't think they're comparable at the end of the day.
If we are to consider that the MK series is the trope codifier of Kart Racer, i'd honestly not consider CTR a Kart Racer, but just a racing game. It's unironically not casual enough to be a good kart racer: Too frontrun heavy, skill ceiling's too high, Items don't solve shit & arguably excacerbates the frontrun problem.
I don't say this because these are bad traits to have, it's just that with the trope codifier being a casual game makes me incline to say Kart Racers are supposed to be casual, and CTR isn't a casual game.
If you take it as a pure casual game, it has about as much value as MK8D if not less. It has actual desirable solo content over it, and better fan service for the people that like Crash.
Tl;dr MK8D for the casual kart racer, CTR for a wacky but skill intensive racing game

So neither?

I'm more of a SEGA All Stars Racing fan myself.

Neither of them have been able to dethrone Sonic Racing Transformed and Deluxe isn't even the best Mario Kart game. CTR is definitely better if thats what youre asking by virtue of it being an actual racer and not a casual party kart game

This. MK8 has a better online so I prefer it for fun multiplayer. CTR is good if you want to go nuts with Solo content and Time Trials.

CTR for single player and Mario Kart for multiplayer.

CTR is better if you want to experience the thrill of driving fast as a reward for getting good at the game.
MK is better if you want the experience of playing an easy driving game with players of all skill levels because it's hard to build a gap between positions and items will batter everyone pretty consistently.
CTR isn't a good "party kart racer" in that sense, but it's a great racing game with "arcadey" mechanics in how its boost system works. They're for different types of people, and while casuals can still have fun with CTR, the real meat is once you've ascended and put time into understanding how to drive.

Mario Kart makes CTR look like an outdated piece of shit kek despite using 10 year old hardware

CTR anyday.

No.
SASRT for life

Why is Nintendo so against having an Adventure Mode in Mario Kart?

Nintendo hates giving mario games any kind of story beyond "bowser kidnaps peach, mario saves peach"

CTR is on Switch and looks worse than the PS4 and Xbone versions.

fpbp

MK more fun.
CTR better game and requires far more skill to be good overall.

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE PC PORT

They should bring back Diddy Kong racing, it was better than both

Fuck off port beggar

MK will be better until CTR gets a PC port that finally enables 60 fps.

What the fuck? No

Have the CTR babbies even played on 200cc in MK?

>get good to go fast vs select menu option to go fast
don't know why you brought that up if you weren't prepared to get dunked immediately

>Neither of them have been able to dethrone Sonic Racing Transformed
They did by having more consistent driving formats and rosters with characters fans actually know. I like Transformed but come on now.

MK has both, buckaroo.

Holy shit, this. Gameplay wise CTR could be miles better than anything Mario Fart but holy shit does it suffer from this
PC doesn't have enough this type of racing games, it'd be perfect

>Getting filtered with plane and boat sections
>"characters fans actually know" when CTR is full of literal whos and MK had to filler with recolors like Peach Pink Gold and Metal Mario before the DLC
As shitty as they were, the Yogcast and Danica Fucking Patrick were new models with new cars. And what kind of zoomer would admit not knowing the rest of the roster of Transformed
