The dragon transformation is eventually put under control and you can trigger it without losing control of the character. In the story it happens once Yuma stops being scared of the Shining Dragon. Actually I think the relationship between him and the dragon is one of the very few things in the game that holds a sliver of interest in terms of writing and doesn't just feel like going 100% through generic anime motions.

I liked the art but after beating the first "dragon" boss and looking up reviews, they're gonna do this +10 levels to every enemy in the game to force you to grind. It can't shake this feeling of being bootleg Tales of and Tales isn't even AAA so you're already below the standard.

This will serve me right, it's the one time I regret buying a game but it was cheap so I won't cry more than I already am. Lame protagonist, WTF suicidal party members in battle, and the excessive grind ahead killed it for me. Well, the last straw was checking in a bunch of sidequests only to see the NPCs give me the exact same quests. That's some Skyrim shady business repeat thing they got going on.

Love the art, though. Too bad even casual mode forces you to make do with this knockoff Tales of gameplay for poverty JRPG.

I bought this game on switch for full price one night while drunk. I really liked the demo. But the waifu shit is disgusting and it became very grindy about 20 hours in.

Shining series have tons of different gameplay styles, from Strategy RPGs to dungeon crawlers to portable not-Diablo games.
This one is a grindy action RPG, not that great outside of the artstyle.

I really like the character designs but I wasn't sure about the protagonist.

Just mash through his dialogue, it's not that important.
