10/10 disc one

Whatever

user, that's not FFIX.

>He doesn't think it peaks with the Garden battle

It peaks with the failed assassination at the end of disc 1

Still the best final fantasy dungeon ever

You can garnish most stats and triple triad cards in first disc. Obtaining lion heart in first disc makes you auto based after that.

Game is fucking trash. The best thing about the game is the card game. Lol

Nah, I’m thinking the entire game is consistently shit. Sorry, bro.

even though i love FF9, i have to say the game peaks at disk 1, afterwards the narrative starts getting muddy

Nothing really even happens in disk1, what the fuck. It's just the intro

Playing the remaster. Everything is so blurry, I feel someone smudged cum on my eyes.
Should I switch to the PSone version? I already played 1 hour and a half.

you have a tiny brain
this
don't play that garbage, squall looks NOTHING like the original character, they turned him into a sora
since you already paid for this shit just emulate the original, it's kino

Disc 2 was pretty damn good still.
Disc 3 + 4 was where it really crashed and burned

Makes me sad that liking Rinoa is such an unpopular opinion around these parts, after playing the game again for the first in over a decade she's so cute and full of life.

that's because she's a monster user

But I just got to the lunar gate on disc 3 and am still having a blast.
The only thing I didn't like was everything to do with the orphanage. The fact that they knew each other, that Edea was good, and that Cid was her husband all just feels like such a stretch with no real purpose.
The junction system and level-scaling complement each other well and are brainlet filters, and the music and aesthetic are 10/10 just like the other PSX FF's.

people hate rinoa because they are unloveable troggs that a woman would never go out of her way to pester
she's a dumb bitch but she is a good and likeable character and fits the story because she is the catalyst for squall growing into the person he's supposed to be

This. The pacing and excitement drops dead on disc 2. The rest of the game is a test of patience.

I never had an issue with the orphanage like everyone else, I feel like it adds something to the main cast to know they were kids together, this whole game has this overarching theme of destiny (star-crossed lovers whose parents fell in love but didn't make it?) and when you actually analyze it it's not a plothole
how many of the kids you went to kindergarden with do you remember even WITHOUT gf's taking up space in your brain? obviously kids that later went to the same elementary/mid/high school don't count
and the whole origin of SEED with edea really pays off in the very end of the game

Wow I haven't played this in more than 10 years. I remember hating the Laguna parts, maybe I should revisit it.

>The Virgin Cloud
>That Chad Squall

The orphanage thing by itself makes sense, but I just felt like it was presented weird.
Irvine remembers but decides not to mention it, but as soon as he does suddenly everyone remembers everything instantly? It just felt kinda contrived.

Laguna parts were kino, especially the one in the mine in disc 1 and the Winhill one at the beginning of disc 2.

I like it because it was my first FF.

Really, this is probably how at least 70% of FF fans choose their favorite game in the series including me.

The game is shit.
At least I didn't have to play anything past disc 1 since I could just pretend the Squall is dead theory is canon and be done with it there.

the introduction to that game is the most solid out of any ff, and top tier in gaming

>fast pace setup that introduces a good amount of the cast (zidane, vivi, steiner, garnet + zidane's guild and queen bhrane's lackeys), in an engaging scenario (the kidnapping of garnet) with its own interesting twists and turns (garnet wanting to be kidnapped, the theater play being hold by its seams as unplanned scenarios keep playing up, and the thief's improvising being put to test) coming to a climatic ending as they escape but barely and they get their airship broken in a nearby forest
>A bit of downtime to get to know all this new characters and their relations with eachother moving foward
>The escape from the forest with another climatic ending as a member of the main cast at this point sacrificing himself for the good of the group and getting petrified
>Vivi's character growth afterwards with the dark mage plot and cementing its place and porpuse on the team as his plot connects with the rest of the teams goals
>the ending of disc 1 in burmecia when the team gets their ass handed by beatrix

disc 1 is kino

>Irvine remembers but decides not to mention it, but as soon as he does suddenly everyone remembers everything instantly? It just felt kinda contrived
I'll say it doesn't make as much sense as say tifa not confronting cloud when he spouts bs about what happened 5 years ago but consider the fact that irvine DOES tell them
that's what the basketball scene is, irvine realizing THIS is the plot, this is where his life is leading him and these people are now his comrades so he decides to be real with them
it's not like they find it by accident and he's like "oh yea I totes knew this all along by the way"
HE tells them
I also love how it puts into perspective his inability to shoot edea
he wasn't having the jitters cause he's a fake, he was entirely capable of carrying out the assasination, he just couldn't bring himself to do it
and yea winhill is peak kino
favorite, sure
FFVII was my first and favorite but I don't think it determines which game you'll LIKE or not, I love FFVIII despite not playing it first and I love VI despite playing it 15 years after my first FF
on the other hand I played IX relatively recently and while I think it's a great game and I enjoyed it immensely you won't see me fanboying it like with my favorite FFs and while I played X-2 when it came out my nostalgia doesn't blind to the fact that besides the amazing setting and great gameplay it's a very messy game that you have to take at face value if you wanna endure it

Its fun you nigger

based

This game was too ambitious for its own good
>started the style that FF would use for everything after with animeish looking humans
>A fucking Futuristic military drama mixed with a love story and time travel
>lets make a unconventional JRPG system called junctioning cause why not
>Best Opening/OST in the series cause Uematsu went hard for some reason
>all of this was made in a short time spam which is impressive when you consider how long it takes Nu Square to release a game.
I want a remake just to flesh out more of the world, characters and fixing parts of the story also to see how junctioning/GF would be handled now especially in a ARPG format

I'm sorry but from a gameplay perspective FFIX is unbearable
it's only good because the characters are great and alexandria is a very cute setting, but consider how long it takes before you get into actual combat (can be literally HOURS in a blind playthrough where you take your time exploring things in alexandria and getting lost a bit) compare it to FFVII where you watch the cinematic and bam you're in combat
the pacing in FFIX is complete ass and it doesn't get better later
there's also the fact that despite being good setpieces, the early locations are very boring, the forest, the ice cave and the first village, the only highlight is the environments and that you finally get the black mages plotline

The part where the moon monsters attack NeoCity(c) is sleep inducing though.

Laguna parts are so fucking boring and im a huge VIII fag, they're alright the first time but replaying it is awful

The problem is the story goes nowhere in IX. It took me literal years to beat the game because there's no motivation. Most other things are great about it but that's why it goes to shit after disc one, because it runs out of that initial steam.

>>started the style that FF would use for everything after with animeish looking humans
perhaps not the best thing historically (although IX and X both had great visuals that fit the respective games) but that was the identity of the game and it worked great
>A fucking Futuristic military drama mixed with a love story and time travel
done perfectly well and don't forget the school aspect thrown in
>lets make a unconventional JRPG system called junctioning cause why not
a great system that filters normies
>I want a remake
you think you do but you don't
