It's either going to go against what every fan of the series wants, whether it be turning characters into something they don't want to see, the story going some way they don't want, or having themes/sections/etc that are uncomfortable for any number of reasons.

We know the game is gonna have flashbacks, so I think they're gonna reveal more about Joel's past. He said he's "been on both sides", that he and Tommy didn't see eye to eye and Tommy had "nightmares" from being with Joel in those years. We're gonna see flashbacks of Joel as a smuggler/bandit and they'll reveal that Joel killed Ellie's mother.
