Lockdown Day 14 edition. What are ya playan and/or grindan, Yas Forums?
Maxed out Shinjiro's S.Link a while ago. Things are lookin' good so far. The foreshadowing's sad, though.

Just XC2 and P3FES for now.
Gerard finally picked up some kingly/knightly armor so I don't hate his sprite anymore. Also, take that Kzinssie.

You have now been reminded of the fact that Raidou's encounter theme is the best battle theme in PS2-era SMT.
obligatory
also i don't know what to play
recommend me something for the PC or switch
If emulators count, then [obligatory shill for basically any Persona/SMT entry ever].
Aside from that, I dunno. As far as Switch stuff goes, I hear that FFXII has the most quality-of-life stuff on it, so you could probably give that a shot. "Definitive experience" and all that noise.
Play the Definitive Edition of DQ XI and mock me, a purely PC player for never getting to experience it. I'm still sad about it...
recommend me a pc jrpg that isnt final fantasy/dragon quest/tales/etc and isn't $5 budget crap by falcom or gust or whoever else shits out budget jrpgs
played all of this already and i have no interest in the "definitive" $60 DLC pack called DQXI
I need the good shit
Then sell me your Switch for a hefty price of as many blowjobs as you want so I can buy the 60$ Definitive Edition
>played all of this already
As in, uh, *all* SMT entries? Well, shit...
The only other off-the-cuff rec that comes to mind is The Last Remnant, I guess; on both platforms, visually interesting, and mechanically autismal. Aside from that, I suppose you could dig through the last couple of threads and see if there's something that catches your eye.
I've started to collect PS2 jrpgs. What are some non SMT or Tales of games I should should consider getting?
>wear Raidou outfit in P5
>battle music changes to this
Finished Langrisser 2's B, I, K, L and M routes, and the endings are all over the place
Why is the light route the default "good guy" route when you get more shit done and better in literally all other routes? It's fucking ridiculous. I'll try for route E/F later
Switch: Octopath Traveler
PC: Recettear
Easy emulates: Shining Force GBA, Riviera, SMT1/2/if
Credit where it's due, those costume DLCs are pretty nifty. Also goes to show that Joker looks better in just about any outfit that isn't his standard one, imo.
Persona 1's costumes fit kinda better, though - partly because they're in line with the whole high-school tone, but also because of LIVED IN BURIED MEMORY
BoF DQ, Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, Atelier, Ar Tonelico, Valkyrie Profile 2, Suikoden III and V, Wild Arms 3-5, Star Ocean 3. There's a lot of good ones on PS2.
So P3P then? Its a good game I got halfway through P3 before P5R came out I got sick of grinding Tarturus for 8 hours in a single day so it's gonna be a while before I attempt to play P3, don't get me wrong its a good game however the gameplay is extremely grindy in the last half of the game and not being able to pick which skills your personas inherit makes it a bitch and a half
Has anyone played Märchen Forest: Mylne and the Forest Gift? It looks fun enough, but I'd like to know if it's worth playing.
>So P3P then?
If you don't mind the move from 3D to more of a VN style, then sure.
>I got sick of grinding Tarturus for 8 hours in a single day
Don't do this. Especially not in Portable, where Direct Control makes things easier than usual. Constant grinding will make things a lot easier, for sure, but when you realize that basically every boss ever (yes, including the final boss if you beef yourself up enough) becomes underwhelming and outright disappointing as a result, you kinda wish you spent that time on literally anything else.
>not being able to pick which skills your personas inherit makes it a bitch and a half
Technically you can, but as-is with *almost* every other SMT, that requires some extensive back-and-forth menu fuckery. You're in luck, though, since Portable's Skill Cards make that more of a breeze when you get a hang of it.
What JRPGs have fun mildly tactical combat, a main character who isn't a teenage fag, and doesn't waste your time with too much bad melodrama? Pic related.
very underrated game
I recommend an emulator
If anything, it's extremely overrated here on Yas Forums. It's not bad, but there's nothing special about it.
Almost beat Nocturne! At the last dungeon, but might split the save to finish the Labyrinth as well. Best SMT game ? Absolutely.
Shit is pretty deep. It really explores the depths of the consciousness, and nature of reality. Pure existentialism, what a blast.
Rogue Galaxy
Okage: Shadow King
>nothing special about it.
Then you should be able to recommend games like it, right?
Always very happy to see anons having a blast with Nocturne. It really is one of the most unique JRPGs I've seen in a hot while, as far as aesthetic and story go.
>but might split the save to finish the Labyrinth as well.
Depending on what you had in mind and what your party's like, that may or may not be a bad idea, lol. Were you going for some specific Reason in the meantime or?
Does NG+ add much to the game? I'd rather try for each ending now.
My party is pretty decent right now, mains are demi, kali, baring and parvati. Mana refill is stupidly good and most of my demons have it.
Opinions on this game? I played a dozen hours of it many years ago. Stopped at the escape from prison sequence that's in every rpg.
Is SMT actually good? I hate the tedium of most JRPGs
Since I have no idea why you hate the 'tedium' of most JRPGs the best I can say is I don't know.
Well take FF VIII which I tried playing lately
>takes forever to get into a battle
>battles take a while because the animations
>takes forever to get out
>GF animations take a year
>drawing
Can this be emulated? It looks really cool but I don't have an X360
>Does NG+ add much to the game?
Ehh, arguable. Per usual, your Compendium's saved, and while your level/stats do get reset, Fusion level restrictions get unlocked. The only downside is that your Macca gets reset, so you'd have to earn it back. Essentially, if you feel like going through the whole thing again but with a set of possibly-overpowered demons in mid-game, then go for it. Otherwise, you could go for whatever you had in mind via multiple saves, but I'm fairly certain that at this rate, you can only get True Demon + whatever route you had in mind, i.e. plain ol' Neutral or some Reason like Musubi.
>Mana refill is stupidly good and most of my demons have it.
Damn straight. I remember my Uzume replacing some meh-ass skill with it and immediately becoming twice as good. Shit's great.
"Tedium" sounds a bit vague without a clear definition of what you think is tedium and what's acceptable, but I think Nocturne or DDS should be fine. Encounters begin a few seconds after running into one, and the animations are generally fast to keep the flow of the battle reasonable rather than slow as all hell.
Most of the SMT games tend to be really good and have very engrossing storylines. They aren't so long usually, but the Persona games are absurdly bloated. Try out Digital Devil Saga as an intro to the series. It's about 25 hours or so.
breath of fire.
The only time I grinded in portable was when I was doing a maniac max s link run as it’s literally required in order to get enough money for the arcade fuckery but in general you never need to grind for levels.
I doubt it. It is a cool game, though. The main character is a full grown stoic man, which I always prefer to the other most popular main character type in jrpgs.
this is why I stopped playing ffViii (other than it being dogshit in general)
I love jrpgs but I can't handle slow battles. The only reason I managed to get through FFix was the fact that everything else was so good.
Pretty much. Two Tartarus runs per month on virtually any difficulty (save for Maniac, obv) are usually more than enough to keep you prepped for whatever's coming next. Though I kinda wish I found that out way earlier.
JRPG doesnt automatically mean turn based combat.
Digimon Cyber Sleuth is great and you can disable battle animations and limit random encounters (this is earned later on in the game) to speed things up.
