game would be pretty boring without vr, pretty much all the encounters are going to be babby tier easy if you just have regular fps aiming without having to manage guns and throw grenades, might make for a nice walking sim though, but a lot of fun comes from interacting with a bunch of objects manually

To be fair there are Light gun shooters that had mouse support, even ones that weren't on PCs.
I wouldn't say a game like Alyx is entirely comparable to Light Gun games though.

Of course, and they're generally seen as inferior versions and less fun. There are many alternative ways to play video games, there even was that one guy who beat Dark Souls with a drum kit, but even he did it to entertain with the absurdity of it. It's sad that some petty people see this as some kind of ownage or one-upping that they're able to play a shitty version of the game. If someone came up with a way to play VR games in all their glory with a decent homemade VR headset that anyone could build for few bucks, now that would be truly impressive.
