Sonic forces is kino and the world will catch up to it in due time. Sonic team is so passionate but about the wrong things and it's great and leads to weird tones and settings for every sonic game now.

Sonic Forces is the only game I've ever refunded. And while it's terrible it's not the absoulte worst game I've played, but it was definitely the most offensive. God the fucking joy I got out of Mania and the sheer amount of passion and skill that went into it made it feel wrong to support something like Forces so I got my money back

It’s not ass bleedingly terrible like 06, it’s just really boring. Avatar stages are easy as fuck, modern sonic still flies off the map randomly, classic sonic stages are short and uninspired. Also pretty much none of these stages are distinct, it’s all City Escape or Green Hill aesthetics with a few Egg Shelters thrown in

The speed at which Sonic moves is a non-issue in 2D since you have a large portion of the screen showing you the coming obstacles, but in 3D you just run into them until you commit the levels to muscle memory after hours of replaying them, that's not good platforming, platforming is intrinsically reactive, having to learn the layout of a level so you can beat them because a game mechanic makes it impossible to do it right the first time around is stupid.

Be honest with me. As objective as you can. I haven’t played any 3D sonic released in the last 15 years. (revisited adventure and 2 though) and I have no preoccupation with hating the series.
If I’m expecting a game where you go fast and it’s fun and consistently present throughout the game, and have no opinion about the plot or characters, just want a goesfast simulator, how is it?

Being self aware isn’t always important, look at Metal Gear
The problem with Forces story in particular is that it’s built up to be super dramatic but they won’t even let the characters rant about their power levels or how evil Force or whatever the dude they’re fighting is, probably because they don’t want to be made fun of. As a result the characterization is one note and the whole thing is completely forgettable aside from the weird juxtaposition of cartoon critters running La Resistance operations

horrible, physics are fucked, you have two stages of speed and no choice over when you go faster, classic physics are so fucking god-awful that it makes Generations look good, avatar weapons range from useless to fucking broken...

Terrible. That stages are all roughly a minute long. A third of the game is 2D with miserably broken mechanics and non-functioning physics. The stage themes are repetitive and half baked. It's just not very good

The soundtrack is all over the place too. I personally kind of like the trashy EDM shit they went with but even then that's only a third of the soundtrack and the rest of it ranges from mediocre to ear raping

Look at the original Ratchet & Clank trilogy for example. The humour gives the characters more charisma and makes them more likeable, but the games still have a lot of great genuine character moments and dramatic story beats that makes the stories fun

Not him but it does seem to have a bit of a 'buttery smooth' flow to it which gets a little jarring when the lock-on snaps Sonic into position or a sudden sharp dive takes place.
