Because the messages they talk about are ones of interpersonal connection and hope, both of which are ideas that people have been desperately trying to deconstruct for over a hundred years but have only just found the perfect tool to isolate and depersonalise in the form of the internet. The morals and ideas they have hold no place in your life anymore.

Too many "cute" pet charicters, saving the world isn't a fucking joke.

They're too long, and lots of them have the same fucking messages

there's only a handful of good ones in a slew of fucking trash.

You grew up and realised RPGs are just bloated menu simulators.

Because random battles suck and take too much time

>Play FFIX
>Filled with elation, game is amazing, I love it
>need to wait 16 years for a JRPG to entertain and engross me the same way

Good JRPGs are available, but truly amazing ones are scarce.

IX is the one I can't get in to. It starts really slow and battles take forever to begin

Because you're only playing the boring, slow pieces of shit that focus on telling mediocre stories worse than any poorly written visual novel out there, basically the retro equivalent of the modern movie game.
Play the ones that focus on actually good gameplay or do like all weebs do once they hit 20 and realize they can't stand this shit anymore, and just play them for the cute girls.

FFVII
>10 minutes of dungeon between each story beat
FFVIIR
>2 hours of dungeon between each story beat

yea dude, totally, those random battles are such a slog

>Play the ones that focus on actually good gameplay
examples

Etrian Odyssey Untold II

SMT, Etrian Odyssey, Wizardry.

>You grew up and realized videogames are for children
FTFY

Play jrps when you get older and your reflexes slow down. Now is the time for action games and shooters.

Play Dragon Quest

45yo boomer here, that's kind of bullshit, you'll never play zoomer shooters again (thank God) but your reflexes dull out by 50ms at most, you can still play action games even into your late 60s
I just beat DMC5 in DmD without breaking much of a sweat and I can consistently 1CC shmups I haven't played much after a few full plays at worst

Because once you've played one, you've played them all.

I hope you're right user. I'm just getting into SF5 and I can't make it out of bronze.

Coming from psx classics the only jrpgs that still make it for me are smt, persona, fire emblem (if there proper fft or ot games I wouldnt even touch modern FE) and xb. Or one time dead franchise games like RoF and Natural Doctrine.

I tried Neptunia, modern DQ, modern FF, tales and many more but they just dont do it for me.

Three Houses was actually fun user. You don't have to engage in the dating sim stuff.

My 20 cents: Characters and stories are shit.
They haven't evolved much since. The only modern jrpg I really enjoyed was DQ11.

It had charming characters and a neat twist in the plot more interesting. However at the end of the day it's still not that groundbreaking.

Jrpg plots need more EDGE and MATURE gamer shit. As cringe as it may be.

Is ffix really that good? Played it for a bit (kuja's castle in the desert? been like 10 years) and I didn't find it interesting. It seemed super generic. Might give it another shot now that I'm older

Oh wait I also liked BD1. But then didnt like Bravely second.

I actually enjoy even the bad Tales games just for the 60fps combat, in high difficulties it's always tons of fun and there isn't much else like it on the market

It's a story focused genre, but it's even more committee'd than comics and cartoons.

Because you eat ass

RPG'S today have some of shitty diversity/SJW message/agenda to push. Old RPG's just focused on the fun things unlike today.

Chrono Trigger and Grandia

We're talking about JRPGs here you retard not your stupid western shit

Three Houses was surprisingly good, especially if you liked FE4.

>It seemed super generic
Thats the charm. Its a masterclass on supergeneric. The apex classic jrpg. Everything perfected. That being said the plot appears to be simple but the characters are surprisingly deep.

And if you care you can find extra lore on artbooks and guides that expand a shit ton the cosmic lore of the game. Is not really important, hence why its practically omitted on the game, but it really shows the cosmic system on another light.

the ending and some of the extra side story really bring it together.

Is that a Brazil reference?

I've been struggling to get into 3 houses, is there a point where it "clicks"? I still love the FE combat and I enjoyed persona 5 a lot, so I'm not sure what isn't working. I'm like 4 or 5 missions in

Yeah the newest of them are basically the same too.

The older you get the harder it is to tolerate the repeated battles with no variation in them. Random battles are even worse. I can't play such games without a speedup function anymore.

>the characters are surprisingly deep

They're glorified Point and Click adventure games. They give you the illusion of agency through a dozen stats and an ensemble cast, maybe an alternative ending, but in the end you're just going through a scripted amusement park.

I enjoyed much more my second run where I didnt have to micromanage gay vn shit and had so much extra time that I could recruit everyone by 4th month.

Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Final Fantasy 9, Skies of Arcadia, and Ys VIII are the only good JRPGs.

sandbox games with no objective are fucking boring
Id rather take a constructed story with a clear goal over "lmao do whatever" anyday
It doesnt even have to be a real story
Fucking THPS is great and all it does is say "do the fucking checklist faggot and go skate"

I really hope this ff doesnt get a remake because the game itself was good and memorable ;and it actually had a graphic update in 2016 if im not wrong or so.

The only character deeper than Vivi in the whole franchise is maybe Wakka. Maybe.

Also Kuja is the most human villain of the whole 1-9 saga. The others were batshit insane mustache twirling wackos. Some of them make so little sense they had to create fanfictions to justify them like Ultimecia.

Bro... FF IX is about what it means to be alive, how depressing death is, and has punishing your cheating husband as a plot line.

Dont worry it wont. Too niche luckily. And yes, models for the main characters were improved. Some fan patch AI textures were made and are also great. The game really doesnt need a remake. Plays perfectly at 1080p-4k with those textures and models.

I only play JRPGs for the feeling of walking around a completely fantasy world. Since they all rip off each other incessantly, there’s fewer and fewer worth playing

The only thing that sucks ass is the mobile UI. The mod used to have a better UI but the guy took it out because it went off the screen unless you changed the scale depending on your screen resolution. I should really figure out how to fix it because it's really the only bad part of the PC version with the mod.

I could never love Skies of Arcadia. I liked the graphics, ost but everything plot/scope/atmosphere was like a shitty tales game. Was it because it was the only big exclusive localized jrpg on dreamcast?

The ship battles are very fun and unique

XB/XBX/XB2 did it for me.
