Just beat Doom 2. Now which do I play first, Master levels or Final Doom?
Doom 64
sega saturn doom
I'm playing that after I finish master levels and Final Doom, now tell me which to do first fag
Back to Saturn X.
Master Levels is pretty bad. Final Doom has more than a few great maps.
How so
Master Levels if you are going in release order, Final DOOM if you are talking about canon.
If I want to get the shittier one out of the way first which should I play?
TNT and then plutonia you may not move on to 64 if you do not complete plutonia
Final Doom
Final Doom
Master levels are really hit or miss.
They just feel very amateurish. There's one level with an elevator gimmick that's infuriating. Aesthetically they're even more brown than Doom II.
Final Doom feels like an actual finished set of levels for the most part. Plutonia is better than Doom II and TNT is about on par IMO.
>They just feel very amateurish
How so
master levels and final doom are fanfic shit skip it and go to doom 64
I like how many people on Yas Forums seem to be playing Doom for the first time, myself included. I'm in the middle of Doom 2 now (paused after starting Circle of Destruction) and I do like how interesting the levels have been for the most part; lots of snappier levels near the beginning and levels that are large but not aimless for you to find what you need in later on. I think I prefer the snappier levels though. 2 also loves to put enemies behind doors/corners and huge waves of enemies/full-blown bosses in rooms while equipping you with a ton of shit to deal with them (the secret entrance to the room with the 2 Revenants and the Arachnotron in Refueling Base and the room willed with a dozen Barons and a Cyberdemon but four invulnerability orbs in Tricks And Traps are the most aggressive so far).
Personally I plan on trying Heretic & Hexen out next, although I also have Plutonia's wad downloaded.
Master Levels suck. TNT is boring. Play Plutonia and No Rest for the Living.
This
If you want a critique you're not going to get any from me. I don't remember anything specific about the levels themselves because they're just really boring and unmemorable and have no desire to go back and analyse them.
Master Levels came out before Final Doom so I suggest playing it first if you really want to play all officially released Doom content. I barely see any discussion on them online so I'm guessing most people feel the same way I do about them.
>Master Levels suck
How So
They were done by "pro" level designers at the time, which was mid to late 90s. Typical doom map design in modern times is far more advanced, so what we're comparing is skill from early doom user-generated content to later doom user-generated content.
It just sucks that the Master Levels are an official map pack and cost money when half of them are really not so hot.
Mostly just poor level design.
this, same reason TNT and Plutonia are shit, all amateurish badly designed boring crap.
Is it better than Doom 2 city level design atleast?
no
They're like one or two notches above Downtown, so not really.
Gotcha faggot, nothing is better than doom 2's city levels
>better
Meant to say worse.
I'm about halfway through and some of the levels are fucking annoying. Doom 1 and 2 are definitely better.
>Doom 1
Yes.
>Doom 2
Fuck no. Maybe the first 7 levels sure.
>Doom 2
>better than 64
>some of the levels are fucking annoying
How So
Master levels, then tnt, then plutonia, then 64
1 > 64 >> 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2
>to get this yellow key, you need to stare at a yellow wall tile outside the room for it to unlock
>to get this blue key, you need to run to a booby trap and not die
>we're gonna ambush you, and if you're not standing in a certain spot the floor will fall through and you will die in lava
I was going to flip through the master levels to figure out which ones were worth playing, but my disc has a 32-bit installer and it won't even unpack on a modern system. I could pull out my XP system but I'd need to set it up and it's not really worth it.
Most of TeamTNT's work is... rather mediocre to put it lightly. They're absolutely abysmal when it comes to hitscanner usage, quite a few of their levels drag on (see Eternal Doom), and a lot of their maps can be unintuitive as fuck (Just take a look at Daedelus. God that wad was fucking awful)
