Clearly you haven't played Morrowind.
I’m 6-7 hours into this and bored. The world doesn’t appeal to me and I don’t like the combat...
The only way to enjoy skyrim is if you honestly dont care about the actual quality of quest (because lets be honest most of them fucking suck). The world is really good from what it shows and tells you indirectly. Skyrim is good for people who like to explore and make their own stories, but it sucks ass for people who want some grand greatly written story.
If you're going to play Skyrim in 2020, you have to do it in VR, modded to fuck and back and playing a bouncy cowtit slut with first person sexlab enabled, with the aroused creatures module
Anything less and you may as well not even bother
Drop it. You answered yourself in your own post.
I just figured its fans and critics can’t all be wrong. It’s also been top 10 on gamefaqs since its release so people are still playing it.
How does a game age this badly? I can pick up most games from any era.

Well shit. I don’t care much about story at all.
It was so bad when I first tried playing, I didn't even make it through the tutorial dungeon. I eventually came back years later, installed a fuckload of mods, and ended up putting 1000 hours in.
Find mods that interest you if you're determined to enjoy it, otherwise, move on, it's not worth the time.
Well you also have to enjoy the world you are actually exploring. I enjoy Elder Scrolls lore and the world, and some people do not, its just preference. Mods will make the combat better, rpg mechanics better, and the game more pretty, but if you dont like the world or the story then you wont like the game ever.
well I'm going to let you in on a little secret: you don't have to enjoy the same things as everyone else. even if billions of people love a certain game doesn't mean you have to.
