3 has better level design
3
It is to me. 3 just wasn't as good.
yes
the best?
for me, it's this
Oh yeah, absolutely.
SMW is the best.
Its not the best but its fuckin great for sure
It is tied with 3D Land
3
It's my favorite but it's completely understandable why someone would like 3 more.

Sorry that you're easily impressed by a few extra pixels of colors and a baby show looking dinosaur, but it's true. Mario 3 packs more of a punch in every level and regularly and consistently so. Super Mario World twiddles its thumbs and sprinkles new content and there, spacing everything out way too far. You like World over 3 because it's easier; challenge and condensed content intimidate you.
It's way too easy.
The secrets are entirely upfront and a cakewalk to figure out. Plus the infinite powerup secret level just blasts all challenge out of the water.
Yoshi trivializes the entire game, to the point where she's outright banned on certain levels. Taking a feather into a level not designed around it isn't difficult whatsoever whereas in 3 it was a genuine feat of skill to retain a hammer or frog suit.
Star Road is also a fucking breeze, and is the only reason World has a higher level count than 3 (96 vs 90)
You can always spot the wanna be retro fags by their praise of World over 3.
But hey, anyone who can jam down on Mario is still worth talking to.

World is the better game for its target audience. Controls don't feel like you're on ice in every level, the difficulty is more forgiving, it has the better overworld structure and secrets that really get that child's sense of wonder going. As a kid I was sold on the secrets alone, 100%ing World felt wonderful when I wasn't a jaded cunt yet.
>Yoshi
>she
Aesthetically it's the best one, but SMB3 level design is slightly better.
My uncle owns the local entertainment exchange in my hometown, think of like a "Buy Sell Trade" place stuffed with VHS tapes, CDs, and growing up floor to ceiling with video games.
I've played every single Mario game, and this question comes up a lot. Which Mario platformer is best?
The definitive answer has always been
3 > World > 1 Deluxe > 2 = Japanese 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>> Yoshi's Island > Land 2 > Land
if you stick with pre-Gamecube Canon. Stack the New series in order of release after this list
Both WarioLand and WarioWare are the superior franchises, though.
>2 = Japanese 2
>New series in order of release after this list
>Both WarioLand and WarioWare are the superior franchises, though
3 feels like peak Mario in variety, enemy, world design, music, powerups, and more. It's why the New games have copied it ever since
World is ironically less of a "world" since it just takes place on Donut Island but that does give it a sense of progression. The powerups are a downgrade but the physics are better
I'd go with 3

That graph is ridiculously inaccurate.
>muh secret series only I and a few autists like is actually superior
Your tastes are just trash. You won't convince anyone on this board of how "cool" and "sophisticated" you are, except for insecure idiots similar to you who hold similar "opinions".

Typical brainlet take. Why does everything revolve around your supposed testosterone levels?

I wanna ask, for those who didn't grow up with Paper Mario for the N64, does playing through this gem hit you with some kind of feeling? Does this game make people feel a little emotional without the aid of nostalgia? It's probably my favorite video game ever but I'm aware that it's not really that groundbreaking from a gameplay stand point.
WarioLand aren't even really platformers, though, they're metroidvanias. They really can't hold a candle to any Mario game when it comes to platforming.
Mario 3 and 64 are the best ones. Mario World is an overrated subpar rehash (truth).
Why not just make a Mario game that has the level design of 3, and the overworld exploration of World?
I'm glad those games get love but yeah, there's a reason that they were popular in the gameboy era, they're designed for the most limited hardware. That's why no one really cared that much about Wario Land Shake It, the reason why nintendo isn't making more wario land games is because they were meant for another time.
I know I might be disgracing Wario by saying this but Ware is better for now, I like that Wario got to be a secondary mascot for Nintendo and showed off system capabilities for his games that sold a ton. I like both series though.
64 > NSMBDS > 3D land > 3 > 3D world
This is my genuine top five of the main titles. I excluded the original SMB, Lost levels, and SMB 2 USA, being either too experimental and primitive, or being a literal copy of another game.
3 has a MUCH better overworld.
In SMW they removed lots of cool map features like toad houses, toad mini-games, boulders/hammers, bridges, boats, hammers bros, the airships, unique level entrances, non-secret branching paths, the dark world visibility, Bowser's bridge, etc, etc. Also in SMW there is no inventory selection that you could use to prepare or avoid levels which makes the game much more interesting.
SMW removed all of this and the only thing it added was the switch palaces, secret exits and the star/special world.
Got any more like this?
does paper mario emulate good? ive never played any of them
Why not have all of that then? Toad houses, bridges, hammer bros, etc. but also having secret exits and switch palaces.
>she's
sort of
3 had better level design
W had better physics
