I think this is what it comes down to. If you're okay with it not being a true remake you're probably going to have a good time. Some of the changes are kind of intriguing - I wonder if they're doing it to save Aerith, or at least make us think they're going to save Aerith

It is fun. It's a great fucking game.
But it's a sequel, not a remake. And they'd have made just as much cash if they marketed as such, because the FF fanbase will lap up anything Squeenix shits out that isn't based on a fucking gimmick. Everyone cites "HOOOO SQUARE SELLS GAMES LIKE SHIT, WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR MUSIC GAMES AND THEIR SIDE STORIES!"

Yeah. Because their gimmicky shit always sucks. Their FF games are hit or miss. Crisis Core sold well, even though it was gimmicky. Was it well received? No. But it made them money. So why release this as a "Remake", and not "FF7: Rebuild" or "Final Fantasy 7 ~New Destiny~" or some shit?

It sure as hell DOES matter, since everything points to it being a spiritual (rather than imaginary) fight in the lifestream. Infact the whole "holy still doesn't activate" is undeniable proof since it activates right after that bit.

That doesn't make it the right choice
