Why does false advertising not apply to video games?
It was marketed as a remake and 90% of the game is a faithful remake, until the final 2 hours where it retcons basically everything. It's also not the full game and only about 1/10th of the original game length. Obviously they did this to get good reviews before people had actually completed the game. Why is this not illegal?

They got me. I legitimately fell for it, even knowing that FF has been dogshit for years. I saw the game drop and I thought, holy shit, they actually did it, they made a faithful remake. The whole game I was like "this is awesome!", then I see some ghost jannies and get confused but quickly forget about it as I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. Also it's not a reimagining, it's a sequel. Everything that originally happened still did but time's repeating for some reason giving everyone a second chance. It's not false advertising, they just figured to use wordplay to create a plot twist (Remake as in remaking the world) to justify splitting the game into several other games instead of playing it straight and just cramming more pointless subquests into it instead.
Rebuild of Evangelion was sold as a remake of the original series at first too, then 2.0 happened and 3.0 basically threw everything out of a window. Because the original story still existed, there's no point in remaking it because there's only so much you can do with a remake.
You try to "fix" things it did wrong you'll have fans screech at you that you ruined it, you do everything 1:1 and it'll basically be an entirely pointless cash grab, and in this situation after they already stated things'd be different and spread across multiple games, they'd end up needing to replace all the time jannie stuff with meaningless filler and sidequests which'd just make you question what the point of it all was.
The fuck did you want? The original game but with a playable Advent Children tacked on? Or maybe have Dirge of Cerberus remade inside of it too? You know those classic fucking stories that everyone adored and that expanded the universe of FFVII?
FFVIIR being a sequel is probably the best case scenario, you want your "faithful" remake go play FFVIII Remastered. I'm sick of everyone worshipping FFVII like some flawless masterpiece that has never been "desecrated" until now.
