I would unironically pay to be able to play a ghost-free FFVII Remake

I've never played the original so this might be an ignorant question but if that's the case why not just play the original game?

we pretty much will have to. The issue as stated is that this game is marketing itself as the long-awaited remake, yet is in no way a remake but a sequel. FF7 has gotten a lot of flack for getting so many sequel and spin-off games and Square likely knew another would be poorly received, so they put this out as a remake then pull a literal bait-and-switch on the consumer. We'll basically never actually get a remake of this game despite asking for years. Almost a decade ago Square remake FF1 through FF4, then 2 shitty remakes of 5 and 6. 7 was due and this looked to be a grand love letter to it, but it's just Nomura shitting the bed thinking that ghosts and alternate timelines are more interesting than just giving us the game they literally said they were going to give us.

Nobody would be mad at this game if it were just not called "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" but rather some other title to make it more apparent that it would take 'some' liberties with the plot.

My pleasure. I'm glad I was able to help, I can understand not getting a lot of the outrage going on about it on this board if you aren't keeping up with the game so no worries. At the end of the day the remake isn't even a bad game on it's own, it's edgy as fuck and the gameplay lacks polish, and it's literally piggy-backing on FF7's popularity, but "what-if" scenarios are usually fun from a narritive standpoint, so it might be kiiinda neat to see where it goes down the road. IF, and this is a BIG "IF ONLY", IF only we didn't already know that by seeing this project continue, the one we've always wanted (FF7 actually being remade) will never ever happen. That's why FF7 fans have their knickers in a twist. We were basically told our son was coming home after all this time, then he came home but wasn't quite the same as we remembered him, this was fine for a day or two, we chocked it up to the times, but then shitty time janitors showed up at our doorstep for no reason and said "Hey he's not actually your son, this is what you're getting, your son is dead enjoy your 'new' son"

But I'm mostly talkin in circles now, sorry.

I want to see a bastardization mod for the original that puts in all the remake content.

Along with all of it I forgot to mention the original game looks dated as fuck. That's another issue with this basically killing the chances of a proper remake. It was Square's first venture into 3d so it turned out.. Impressive for it's time, but aged kinda like cheap wine. Not to mention Square actually lost all of the original files for the prerendered backrounds, it's why we have never ever officially gotten FF7, 8, or 9 in HD because they'd have to actually remake the backgrounds all over again when it's far easier to just upscale the whole game and resell it for $19.99.
Emulation and filters for purists, or unofficial PC HD mods are all we've got left now.

You really have to appreciate how people with no artistic talent think they can "improve" a game by changing textures so that they clash with everything. I guess it's better than that mod that just makes all the models have realistic proportions.

I'm guessing REMAKE is like one of those Kojima things, where what they are doing is remaking history, or remaking the timeline or whatever, that's why the word is part of the title of the game.

I kinda like the whole 'time is convoluted' and shit not going as 100% as intended. It's just too on the nose though with the fucking time jannies and sephiroth being fucking everywhere trying to fuck cloud.

Subtlety is not something that is cultivated in Square-Enix.

Look at it this way. If you spend years remaking a game from 20 years ago, with all of that hindsight, and the fans of the original game still consider the original to be superior, you fucked up terribly. The additional elements which fans wanted were basic and should have been an easy slam dunk, just show more of Midgar, develop some of the characters who had limited backstory/screentime, maybe portray a few of the weaker scenes slightly differently so that they are clearer and add more to the game. This is literally worse than what the Bioshock Infinite DLCs pulled in terms of bullshit and it both sounds and looks retarded because it is. I mean for fuck's sake, if they were going to put those stupid fucking things in the game could they at least have not been some terrible looking ghost? Like at least put the effort forward to make them unique and interesting looking, give them some kind of unique and interesting motivation that actually adds something to the plot in itself and isn't literally just a device to allow everything to come unglued.

Becayse we are talking about videogames, also it really fits with the whole "strand type game" shit.

Why not just make a proper sequel/spin-off from the start? Wouldn't that have gotten people even more hyped?

I don't even know why people wanted a remake in the first place. The original is perfectly playable. Maybe add some QoL features like being able to speed up battles, skip or fast forward dialogue and add quick saves. Even just remaking the graphics was always going to be badly received.
