Tempted. Worth it?

Only turn based RPGs I've played are Chrono Trigger and FF6. Loved them. Is this a good intro to the series? Should I turn on the draconian stuff, or not since it'd be my first go?

You should buy Sylvando's game.

Play the 10h long demo, if you don't like it then you never will

Buy it

Yes its good

It's very good.

I started the game on default difficulty, but what the game doesn't tell you is that default difficulty is easy mode. I would suggest turning the stronger enemies on in the Draconian settings. I restarted the game about 15 hours in because default was brain dead easy.

The music is so bad it ruins the whole game, orchestral version doesn’t help. The compositions themselves are grating, short, overused, and awful. Listening to it for 100+ hours is unimaginable.

Turn on Super Strong enemies. It's just slightly strong. You'll need like 5 minutes of grinding and then you're good for a while. Other Draconian shit take away cool things from you instead of requiring you to strategize more often and don't play 100% braindead.
I'd turn off the voices and music as well and listen to another playlist but that's on me.

Its Such a generic slog of a game. Regret buying it.

If you played CT and FF6 and didnt mind how easy they were you might be ok not turning any draconian settings on

I put 125h in on Switch. Probably in my top 5 JRPGs. Don't skip act 3.

This. I quit 15 hours in simply because I couldn't take the music anymore. It's fucking obnoxious.

I sort of agree. Overall the loops are too short. The worst offenders are definitely:

Pre act 3 overworld
Generic battle theme
Generic town theme

These will all give you brain tumors. But some other tracks are really good.

145hrs. It's based, top 5 JRPG for me. Marry Jade.

Just take the music off altogether, makes the entire experience 100% better and pure.

100 hours to complete the game and the side content for me. The sweeping music orchestrals kept me going, especially the change at act 3.

Not OP, but are the voices that bad? First I hear someone complaining about the voices.

Tbh I don't know about later ones, I turned voices off right as the blond girl started talking. Her delivery was so weak and she kept saying YEA GO YOU CAN DO IT YEA in battles so I turned voices off and never missed them.

This. And a jRPG with shit music might as well not exist. Music in a jRPG is unironically its soul.

It's worth it, in my honest opinion. Characters are charming, and the music is really good, even if they reuse a lot from III, V and VIII.
Battle System was slightly updated, battle animations look fine, especially the pep power ones and the world is massive and beatiful lookin'.
There are also a lot of side-quests you can do.

Game kept me busy for 84 hours on my first run, and now I'm on a second New Game+ run.

There's a 3+ hour demo on Switch if you're unsure. You can transfer your demo save to the full version if you want, too, so there's really nothing to lose here.

the dub is fine but some of the characters are dubbed by brits so burgers hate it

Most of them are fine, one or two of the characters are obnoxious and over the top but that's to be expected in a video game

>samefags shitting up the thread with music complaints because the composer is outspoken about his politics and trannies hate him

It's not as fast as CT nor CC, hell, even slower than FF6, combat is slow, tedious sometimes, and the storyline is too predictable and cliched, I don't know why it gets so much praise when they absolutely played it safe

Dude I don't give a fuck about what the Composer does or whatever. The music just isn't good in this game. Very different from DQ3 for example, which was mostly 10/10 tracks. I like the style, it just feels uninspired compared to earlier entries and repetitive as fuck. That has nothing to do with politics which I could even agree with.

I enjoyed playing it on PS4. Very good when you turn on strong enemies in Draconinan difficulty or try reduced EXP to prevent power creep. Would defiantly play the Switch version if I didn't already own the game. Not my favorite DQ game but in the top 5 and would have been higher if Sylvando wasn't so obnoxious.

>game reuses tracks from previous games
Not really a problem for a person looking to use this game as an entrypoint

90% of the game Super Strong is great but the last 3rd of the game actually gets pretty difficult.
I actually had to turn off Draconian mode around the Tentacular fight because the difficulty spike was a bit too much
I think the voices are pretty good at least compared to what you typically get in a Japanese import.

>cringe

It's not always that 8bit music works in orchestral arangements.

Top 20 game of the last decade for me. Get it and like a few people have said definitely play it on stronger enemies draconian mode

Didn't say it was a problem. My cousin started with XI-S, started playing the older titles after she beat it, and started recognizing a lot of the music from XI-S.
It was really fun to go down the rabbit hole and show her how the orchestrated music sounded on the NES, SNES, GB, and PS1.
My apologies if I made that sound like a problem. Wasn't my intention.

>combat is slow

This is alleviated in the Switch version though

They're fine. Racist weebs can't handle non-American voices.

Great voice acting, only one bad (Asian lady) in a cast of dozens of characters. Pretty much a professional dub, I could tell some were theater actors and they were the most fun. First time I heard otherwise for DQ11, especially some knockout performances like Rab, Veronica, Jade, and spoiler party member. Now FF7R on the other hand is amateur hour disaster outside of Cloud, Barret, Nanaki. Some of the worst NPC performances too in a AAA game, Enix produced games such as DQ are in a bizarro world of good localizations while Square the """AAA""" arm of SE is in clownsville with a dead VA director.

>Dragon Warrior
>Android, IOS
heresy

but honestly. The first game is much cooler when you can respect it as a comprehensive product with its frame based on limited technology. The eloquent simplicity of the NES version is what makes the whole thing remarkable. Everything is great aside from perhaps some of the grinding which is debatably comfy. The remakes sorta rob the game of its charming simplicity. Other games in the series I could respect playing on modern iterations, but imho the first game needs to be played on NES.

>inb4 but the famicom version is even less refined
