Strange since all CS pros have only had positive things to say about it and the most popular streamers playing it also like CSGO (XQC plays CSGO quite a bit on stream).

But that's literally what they're doing. They have an open beta and force people to watch for days in order to get a key. A buddy of mine had to constantly have twitch open on his phone for 5 days in order to get one, but drop rates vary.
