You mean FFX right? If anything, this is the only game to try and take the classic FF games and properly modernise them.

You’re forgetting X. What really started it was the PS2. Square couldn’t just litter the over world with small models for locations anymore. Better hardware meant better graphics but doing a whole world to those standards Is too much.

X was way more linear than XII what are you talking about.

>tfw stumbling into a super high level area at the start of the game while exploring and manage to adquire some end game gear

No, FFX was far less linear than this game. FFX had a shit ton of content to do while FFXII had nothing except walking.

>FFXII
>lineaer

lmao imagine being this dumb

Imagine thinking linear automatically meant bad still.

FFX did it right because they built the story and atmosphere around the linearity. They hid it well in the backdrop

FFXII was fine. Not as well designed as ffx but it was tolerable. FFXIII was literally just hallways for no reason.

>ffx where you literally walk down a corridor for 30 hours before reaching the calm lands
>less linear than xii

better than thinking open world = good

You could play Blitzball and dodge lightning and learn the Al Bhed language. There is nothing you can do in FFXII except walk five hours to the next cutscene. I played it in 25 hours and sold that shit two days after when I spent over 160 hours in FFX.

Two sides of the same coin. As with anything balance is fine. I'd take a linear well realised world over an open barren one.

Why did you list the most annoying parts of the game as good lmao

Bro... those aren't even the good things you can do in 10.

Are you trollin?

XII shit on X so much, with all the world building, arts, cultures arounds Ivalice, superboses, the areas, espers, hunts, tournesel, superbosses.. It's not even fair to compare the two

Too bad the team all switched to FFXIV which means we'll probably never get something alike

But they're good. And that's still three more things you can do while the only thing you can do in FFXII is watch the game play itself

>dodge lightning
So walk down the same corridor with an annoying timing based minigame
>learn al bhed
You mean occasionally find an item in the corridor

>play blitzball
Okay you can do this at the save points throughout the corridor, yes.

Everyone is going to try to dab on you but you make a good point.

Nonlinear gameplay is when you can make meaningful choices about how to progress through the game. Having a wide open world does not in and of itself enable this.

However, you are wrong. Optional content like blitzball is not nonlinearity, as it has nothing to do with progressing through the game. Same with stopping to dodge lightning, the powerup does not change how you progress, it just makes it easier.

Nonlinearity is not just when you have access to multiple objectives at once, giving you a choice between when, or if, you do them, but it must also, based on these choices, determine which future objectives you unlock, and in which order.

FFXII probably represents this ideal better than FFX which only has one quest that progresses the game when completed at a time.

>epilepsy minigame is good
actual retard itt

Give me one thing that you can do in FFXII while going through corridors.

You mean FFX. 12 at least had exploration and whatnot. X was totally on the rails and got rid of towns, overworld, proper airship, challenge... it's the proto garbage that ruined FF.

Choose one of 10 different paths and do a million sidequest with satisfactory rewards?

Towns felt more lived-in in X than they did in XII by far. That's why everyone remembers Besaid and no one remembers shit like Rabanastre

At least FfX had npcs and things to look at and do. FF13 has nothing and even has weird e-shops everywhere.

I too can say that about FFX. It is very easy to lie.

But OP, XII was very open and had very few limits on where you could and could not visit during the early game; which were just for plot reasons. During the beginning you could easily get fucked up by traveling a map too far in any direction and face mobs 30+ levels higher than you

Here's your FFX "dungeon", bro

>That's why everyone remembers Besaid and no one remembers shit like Rabanastre
there's an immense amount of ivalice content in ffxiv yet there's absolutely no reference to ffx in the mmo whose content comes from other final fantasy titles
waht the fuck lmao

>Linear
You know how we know you haven't played 12, faggot?

If anything, 10/X is the one that caused the downfall of the series. 12 tried to save it, but faggots like you hated it.

Rabanastre is one the best town in a RPG

>FFX was released in 2001
Bros...how did it age so well?

Attached: Besaid.jpg (1280x720, 107.35K)

Mini games don't make a game non linear. Is everyone here really this retarded

xii is literally the best game in the series and one of the best jrpgs ever (as its closer to wrpgs than jrpgs). matsuno/sakimoto/yoshida = dream team.
fuck you OP, you're retarded

Here's your non-linear dungeon in FFXII

Attached: FF12Dung2.png (1152x1418, 442.88K)

maybe include the more complex 1st floor which requires a puzzle to get to that floor

By being a non-interactive corridor? It's laughable compared to Gamecube Zelda games on a technical level.

>12 tried to save it,
No that would be 9 you retard. But the new zoomer faggots who played 7/8 didn't want to play a real final fantasy game. You faggots started this shit with 7.

Is there a more kino location in any of the FF's?

>that music
>that atmosphere
>being teased of Nabudis in the intro
>only to find out it was completely fucked in like two years
>overrun by beastmen and undead
>one of the first optional areas that really fucks you up
>all those sweet ass items / spells

not an FF, but all of lea monde in vagrant story

It was pretty good. It lacked story segments towards the end

Sorry wrong pic.

>game that came BEFORE the linear cinematic playstation experience was made to rectify the damage from a game that didn't yet exist

FF9 was truly ahead of its time.

No. FFX was in the same lineage as all the others. FFXII was a piece of shit that decided to take everything that was good, throw it away and replace it with linear garbage. Five years for 25 hours of content. 13 years later and I'm still seething. I dropped it at this fucking desert sea

>nintendo's golden boy franchise is better than final fantasy on a technical level
No fucking shit you retard. They've been creating the same game since LTTP. Nintendo games have always been technically impressive.

you are beyond retarded

what's this new meme Yas Forums's trying to push?
Is not even funny.

What's wit this faggot making the same damn thread with the same pic since yesterday about how ff12, of all ff's, is supposedly linear?

This is one of the stupidest hot takes I've ever heard regarding the FF series. 10 is the corridor shit that led to 13.

12 is barely FF. It's an Ivalice game. You can tell, because the bosses can actually be afflicted with status effects.

>playing ff12
>get to great crystal

X did a good job of hiding the open world in it's plot though. 13 doesn't even try. At least X tried to save itself at the end with the airship even if you couldn't control it. Still felt like a mainline game to me and my favourite is 6
