Fallout 2 is full of pop culture references, monty python references, fourth wall breaking stuff in general. It's garbage. Fallout 1 looks like ass and plays like shit. By comparison, BG2's Athkatla backgrounds (and Trademeet) still look beautiful even to this day.

The whole killing kids, porn, prostitution and other element appeal to people with asperger's syndrome who are bitter against the world. Baldur's Gate 2 tells a more classic (and arguably cliched) tale, but it's more human as a result.
It's telling that back when the controversy over 3 started, the thing that got most of the NMA seethers mad the most was not being able to kill children. Really tells you a lot about their deranged, mentally ill mindset.
