3 was the one with a million bugs on release, New Vegas had some but nowhere near as bad. Apart from a severe bug with one of the first updates (which wasn't the release or review version) NV has pretty much always been more stable than 3, on any platform. People just didn't notice with 3 because they were so amazed by it being Oblivion with guns.

Obsidian got a shitload of the benefit of the doubt on here, even back at release. They were hiding high off the reputation that Kotor 2 had (thinking that they would be able to put together a masterpiece if they just had the time). It was probably true back then, and it was probably true with New Vegas.
Would have been nice if somebody had given them a real chance before the big industry shift, and a lot of financial and personnel compromises had to be made at Obsidian. People don't realize how fucking close some of these dev houses come to either being phone game devs or not existing at all. It's sad because the industry lends itself to dissolving or fucking things up that way.

It was really disheartening for me to play FO1&2 after starting the series with 3, and realize that 3 largely just takes a bunch of plot points from those games and mostly uses them in worse ways.
Like how Super Mutants are just kind of there, or howthe end of the sidequest where you go back to Vault 101 is just a less interesting version of 1's ending.
New Vegas is like a breath of fresh air in retrospect.
