7 does have excellent pacing though. You ask anyone how long the midgar section is and they always overestimate it because of how densely packed it is without feeling rushed. It also knows when to take time out to explore the rest of the cast like Red XIII's and Barrett's segments so the main plot doesn't get too tiresome.

I've never heard anyone really criticise the pacing until the remake came out and the nomura faggots started using it as a kneejerk reaction any time they heard the mere mention of padding.
