I know people who just thought this was alright but it made me enjoy video games again. Definitely feels like an adventure.

OSRS, haven't tried RS3 but I haven't really liked what I've seen.

The commercial for this game is welded into my brain youtube.com/watch?v=JAD6WCk7ckg

First playthrough of Dragon's Dogma. Nothing like exploring at night with a lantern. Just make sure you don't overlevel

its dead to a lot of people because of how much its been played but if you're new to Minecraft it feels incredibly mysterious and adventurous. Although less so now in some ways since its formula has been copied so many times.

earthbound before it became a meme

This! Kino incarnate.
Fuck off, Reddit Knight. Bloodstained was better. My recommendation for a game of adventure and mystery is Shadow of the Colossus.

Why does Hollow Knight make fags like you seethe so hard?

Hello OP, welcome to old. You are trying to be not old. I have bad news, you are old now.

Is this Simon, or is this Conoghi? Sometimes I can't tell thei work apart.

Explain yourself

This the one where Dipper fucks Mabel?

Dunno who Simon is, but this is not Conoghi. It's not porn, user!

This is obvious and a generic answer but it frustrates me how some people view it now.

I played this game for the first time last year. I had a PS1 instead of an N64, my first 3D Zelda was Windwaker, and I was baffled by how exciting OoT felt.

I've yet to play a game that captures the feeling of a fairy tale as well as OoT does. I also found the writing, although basic, to be filled with details. It's simple but its not generic (although on paper it sounds generic which is why I assumed it would be).

I am not a person that has issues going backwards. If I play Uncharted 4, I am not suddenly incapable of playing Super Mario World. I do not understand why people have trouble going backwards with games, its like the minute controls are jarring they don't put any effort into mastering them even if it would only take 5 minutes to readjust.

People saying its only beloved due to nostalgia are probably blinded by nostalgia in the opposite way (disliking it because its nostalgic). The strengths of OoT are still very apparent, coming from a newcomer. I had no nostalgia and I found a lot of praise I've heard for it to be accurate mostly just because of how the game captures the feeling of adventure.

Minecraft the first time

Is this the designated incest thread?

no

...turns out it was Simon and I got it while browsing for porn a week or so ago... but that was not what I was thinking of when I made this thread OKAY?

It's shit.

Hot opinions you got there.

I agree with you. And now that you've experienced OoT like that, I highly recommend you go right into Majora's Mask (64 version). I still think even that has a strong sense of adventure despite being wildly different in many ways.

I plan to, although I've been holding off a bit. There are a few projects currently that when combined have the potential to fix MM3D (one being nerral's texture pack, plus some mods to fix gameplay changes), and I'm curious to see how that pans out. In the end though I'll probably play first via n64.

Mostly because of the world building the game delivers through it's heavy use of dialogue, but also because of the traverseable overworld and my favorite addition to an RPG: the mind read psynergy that allows you to read the minds of people, animals and certain objects such as statues and trees.

Fire Emblem Binding Blade which in my opinion has a gripping story that features political movements, betrayals, revolts, fighting against corrupt governments and colonist forces, avenging your homeland and uncovering the mystery of the war dragons.
This track in particular gives that sense and feel of adventure

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
It's a bit of a goofy and cute game that starts with you wrecking your raft and being rescued at the shores of Koholint island by a girl named Marin. You're then set en route to begin your adventure in the land, it's a pretty open game with tons of charm.
I haven't played the switch version but the GBC Deluxe release is still my favorite.
Check out the art gallery, it's fucking great with the color contrast used.

Likewise some of the older 2D Zeldas have incredible art that envokes that feeling of adventure.

Dragon's Dogma
Just play it man, I don't have enough words to put into describing it.

Simon was a treasure. I can't believe he's fucking dead.

Gravity Falls wasn't good.

This and the 10,000 clones it inspired tend to start off really strong, but then hit a cliff edge that you can't really recover from.
