Play Shin Megami Tensei
Play Shin Megami Tensei
Yes.
but i dont play anime games
I'm playing Strange Journey Redux right now, Flynn!
Sure thing. I'm planning on buying Persona 5R real soon :>)
I've played every translated SMT game already, aside from IMAGINE. All are good except for if...
im doing a IV neutral route right now, i dont like how paranoid i have to be regarding which sidequests i cant do so i dont fuck my alignment. it was more fun just going around the world doing whatever on my chaos playthrough
Apocalypse is a chore to get into, which is weird cause SMT IV I absolutely loved and everyone says Apocalypse is much better gameplaywise.
No, play Megami Tensei
IV Apocalypse or the Strange Journey remake?
I just want 5. It was one of the games I bought the switch for.
SJ Redux.
IVA is an insult to the franchise.
>played all but IMAGINE
There's a ReImagine fan server, in case you want to able to say you've played that too
if... is based as fuck
I just finished my first playthrough and God I fucking hate the Law ending so much since it's basically no different from The White ending. Atleast I am still alive in Chaos or Neutral
Cool thanks. Just have to figure out how to update the 3DS CFW
Yeah I tried to get into it once, but I ended up not bothering. I don't really like MMOs very much, so I don't think I would be that taken with it anyway, but I still might give it a go at some point.
I love all the art Kaneko did for it, I think the new designs in it are good, and there's some interesting ideas in the gameplay and the story, but on the whole it's just not enjoyable. The dungeons range from godawful, the Domain of Sloth being the worst dungeon I've seen in any dungeon crawler or JRPG in my life, to just mediocre, the setting isn't as interesting as SMT1's and 2's, the guardian system is shit, the whole game is just an unsatisfying slog. I didn't do the Akira route though so maybe that's better than the NG routes.
IV:A is shit in terms of everything except gameplay.
Strange Journey Redux is good in terms of everything except dungeon design.
Envy, greed and wrath were great dungeons. Sloth isn't even bad, just long because of the gimmick, you're making mountains out of molehills
Guardians were cool, they gave you a way to customise your heroine and even the hero slightly in a way that the other first person games don't. You get rewarded for not dying, while also letting the game be less punishing than the instant death -> reload save of the other games which isn't really a big deal, but lots of people complain about it all the time. Combat is better than the other snes games and even devil summoner because it actually has difficulty
Why would I play Proto-Persona when I can just play persona
Shin Megami Tensei is a video game series. It did not originate as an anime.
Which has cooler music, objectively?
4A because of how much it recycles from 4
Release 5 and I will, you stupid demon-loli fucking nigger.
Sloth is that bad. Being long would be fine if it were long because it was filled with engaging content, but it's long because you have to walk back and forth for hours doing nothing but walking and running into enemies if you don't have Estoma because the game has no sidequests are anything like that to fill in the time where the only way to progress is to walk. You can customize the protagonist more in SMT1 and 2 because you aren't limited by the Guardians lowering your stats. Having more freedom in your partner's skills is nice, but having to let them die just for the dice roll of new abilities is shitty. I would have been fine with the system if there was a way to swap your guardians that wasn't just sitting there and letting an enemy kill you. I think it would be fair to say the combat is better because it involves at least some thought instead of being braindead like in SMT1 and 2, but it's still not good combat, it doesn't have any engaging mechanics and it doesn't have the freedom of party customization that games from Nocturne onward have had that made composing a party to counter a certain encounter fun.
still an anime game
I cant stop cooming to the mermaid from 4a
I’m replaying Devil Survivor if that counts.
Because the overall structure and game design is different? Imagine not playing both.
Nah, too busy playing Kyuyaku Megami Tensei
I'm replaying 4 and going for neutral this time
I will be so mad if I miss the mark
You are wrong, you can walk back and forth while doing something else like reading Yas Forums, it's not that bad because you don't need to pay attention to it
>You can customize the protagonist more in SMT1 and 2 because you aren't limited by the Guardians lowering your stats
That's less customisation, not more
>but having to let them die just for the dice roll of new abilities is shitty
There is no dice roll, there is a meter that fills up as you gain exp
I'm playing your game Flynn, but I'm stuck in Tokyo.
WAIT I HAVEN"T DONE ANY CHALLENGE QUESTS OTHER THAN THE ONES REQUIRED BY THE MAIN STORY
AM I FUCKED TO GET THE NEUTRAL ENDING
I JUST GOT TO BLASTED TOKYO
I could start the series with 4, 3, Devil Survivor, Soul Hackers, or Strange Journey. Which one is the best to start?
Nah but you're gonna have to do a lot of backtracking doing the challenge quests so have fun with that
Really depends. SH and SJ both play like old-school SMT with grid dungeon crawling while 4 is freeform. DS is a strategy game.
Just play 3, desu.
>you can walk back and forth while doing something else like reading Yas Forums
If the only way to make it tolerable is to do something else outside of the game, then that's an issue. You may as well just say it's fine if any game has a boring section because you can just stick a movie on and watch that while you mash A for the game. The game itself is what should be engaging, it should not have hours of doing nothing but walking back and forth.
>That's less customisation
How? In SMT1 and 2 you're given complete control over your character's stats, in if... you have the Guardians as a random element to raise or lower certain stats. Just because it's an additional aspect effecting your stats compared to 1 and 2 doesn't mean it's more customizable.
>There is no dice roll
There is. It's true that there's a meter that effects the quality of your Guardian, but you're not guaranteed a specific Guardian at a specific tier, you just get one out of a pool of Guardians at that tier and there's no guarantee you'll get one that suits your build or gives your partner the spells you want.
>tfw when level 33
>remember when Yas Forums used to shit on 4 hardcore
>now it's actually held on a pedestal
I refuse to believe Persona 5 turned the waves that much.
IV is the most beginner friendly since it's not that hard compared to the others. Don't be mistaken though, you will still get your ass killed from time to time due to the smirk bullshit, but it's still pretty tame considering the other options. 3 is a good place to start too since it's pretty much a blend of old SMT atmosphere but with modern SMT gameplay attached to it.
Play Gin Gegami Gensei
I just started replaying 4 last night.
How the FUCK do I get neutral ending?
*Unzips guide*
Really, the fuck where they thinking
you're either born a neutralchad, or you aren't. sorry guide readers, you don't count
Yas Forums just shits on almost everything new, and then time goes on and the only people who still care to talk about it are the people who like it.
>Always go first dialogue choice
>Avoid challenge quests
>Go with Jonathan
>Destroy the status quo
>first choice in dialogue until Ginza
>be neutral before Camp ichygaya
>save challenge quests for later
>side with Walter
>after remote try and stay neutral depending on what you were before the choice to check disappears
>preserve the world
