Now that we know the story has been completely butchered, is it at least worth buying for the combat alone?

Sure if you liked FFXV's action combat. I didn't.

The original story sucks nuts too. It's a bunch of running around doing random plot shit with Shinra, Sephiroth, and the Cetra, taking random plot departures for dumb shit like Cid, Cait, Red 13, and Yuffie (literally characters you could just cut from the story).

The original story is a bit of a mess, but honestly it's still miles better than one that includes alternate dimensions and time travel.
Those are two elements only used by utter hack writers.

>Alternate dimensions and time travel.
Wait, what? I haven't played it yet. Did he do the impossible and make this huge mess even worse?

did you play the demo?
The combat does not evolve much from that. If you think you'll enjoy that for 30 more hours then you'll be fine.

It's a cool, cinematic "what if" story based on FF7. It's worth it for all that it offers but calling it "Remake" is an unfortunate and stupid choice of wording. It is not a "remake".

>hi guys haha totally new here, please share some webms! haha so i can mass reply them with "what the fuck" and "oh no no"

yes, nomura turned it into kingdom hearts sequel.

>NOOOO DON'T SHOW ANYONE THE TRUTH OF HOW SHITTY THE GAME IS PLEASE STOP JUST BUY IT FIRST THEN MAKE YOUR MIND UP

No I wouldn't say it's butchered but if you choose to believe that then that's fine by me.
And yes it has good combat, progression and well written characters. Only time the side questing sucks is in the Sector 5 slums which is I think chapter 8.

Play the demo and find out.

what the fuck
oh no no no

Nah, it's a shallow action hybrid that doesn't play to the strengths of either turn based or action combat.

It's so depressing because this game should've been an easy perfect 10 for SE, yet they still managed to fuck it up.
They should've kept the turn based combat, there are tons of ways to keep that cinematic like they clearly want to go for. Additions like the Crab Warden and Valkyrie are fine, but when you go and shit on the story like that.. WHY???

I'm really upset about this.

It really shouldn't have been so hard to make this a fucking 10/10.

>take FF7
>give it the new graphics
>give it some freshened up ATB combat ala X-2 (peak of FF gameplay wise)
>put in extra exploration, open up areas
>put in more side content, flesh out characters a bit, more dialogue
>add some more minigames to gold saucer
>add a tetra master like card game if you want, make monsters drop cards, completely optional side activity

But no instead we get intergalactic time jannies and alternate dimensions featuring nostradamus Sephiroth .
I fucking hate living in this timeline.

>Really like the game even though it's flawed but don't want to defend it because I don't want people to think I'm a shill

Kill me.

You can differentiate.
For example, while I don't love the action combat, I'm okay with it. I love the new graphics (texture bugs side, clearly unintended imo). Side quests, more dialogue here and there... it's all great. Exploration could be a tad better but we'll see, maybe it'll open up big after Midgar.

My only real problem, a very big problem though, is with the fucking story. I refuse to accept this time janny shit, early Sephiroth with future sight etc. and them basically announcing that "all can happen now" for part 2 onwards.
That's not what I wanted. I wanted FF7. Not "Nomura's crazy KH rewrite of FF7 wacky edition"

Only good melding of real time combat square has done so far. Once you have a handle on all your party members combat flow is so smooth and in the later chapters once you get the good materia and start unlocking more weapon skills it just all comes together so nicely. I wish there were more encounters it get into honestly, I'm up to chapter 14 right now and I always wish there were more enemies to fight when I get to the end of a map. Hopefully part 2 has denser combat encounters in its areas.

The last thing this game needed was fleshed out characters. If anything, characters should have been combined and cut as half the cast is useless and just sort of along for the trip.

There's no downside to putting more in. Why not learn more about some avalanche members? Why not flesh out some areas of the game that were a bit underdeveloped?

At least no one would have actively bitched about these things or thought they ruin anything.
What they have done here though IS so egregious and unforgivable that it just makes me angry.

The parts where you have 2 party members and Red XIII is still just AI controlled are very telling

This game is fucking garbage, when a boss hits you during the animation for a limit break and cancels it i can see the only person who would deal with this level of blue balling is a retard who hates videogames.

What kills me is that I've waited for this thing to exist for so many years. Whenever anyone asked "dude what would be your dream game?" I'd say FF7 with but modern graphics and capabilities.

And here I am, disliking what I ended up getting. The fact that they managed to make me dislike FF7 is astonishing.

?
There is a downside though. The story just takes departures for these useless characters, hurting both the plot and the necessary characters. Those characters don't need to be fleshed out, and frankly characters like Yuffie, Cait Sith, etc, could be just side NPCs like Jessie, Wedge, etc. You could cut Wutai, Cosmo Canyon, etc, and the story wouldn't suffer. It has the problem every RPG with an extensive cast has where it tries to give characters shit to do and screen time which make for a more extensive but shallow experience.

>modern graphics and capabilities
Yeah, now you can clip through the world by stepping on the wrong pixel. Modern games sure are amazing.

Heavily disagree on cutting Cosmo Canyon

I think what I hate the most is that they cut the Rufus speech, and that famous line from Cloud, "this is the REAL fight for the planet" right after. It was one of the most memorable parts of the original for me the first time I played.

>President Shinra killed by Sephiroth
>All these questions about him come to mind
>Rufus arrives
>I wonder what kind of person he is, this is the first time even mentioning him, as well as seeing him
>"Old man ruled the world with money, it seemed to be working, but I am different, I will rule the world with fear, no need to waste money on people when a little fear is all you need"
>Holy shit, he is worse then his dad!?
>Cloud: "Barret, take everyone and go, this is the real fight for the planet!"

It was really great to me, really memorable. And how does the remake handle this?

>Rufus is all goons, go get him
>Cloud beats the goons
>Cloud wants to fight Rufus alone because...um..why?
>Rufus shows off
>At least he still escapes by helicopter like he did in the original

I got NO impression with what kind of person he is. None at all.

I really don´t know what all the fuss is about, finished it a few hours ago, thought it was great.
Loved the combat, gonna go and try the game on hard mode now.

What got me most is that Cloud actually beats him, in the original it's implied Rufus just gets bored/runs out of time to play with him.

But can you omni-slash?

you clearly have a developmental disorder

Can you elaborate on what you enjoyed the most about time janitor ghosts or alternate dimension Sephiroths?

Damn, how will I ever recover from this?

Same it's pretty fun. Shame it will be impossible to talk about for a few months on here.

bro it's "different" so we don't know what will happen which makes it exciting

besides the blatant story changes they replaced grinding with padding. What the fuck was the mech arm part all about? Shit was boring, a "replay killer" if I've ever seen one

It means we'll get more stupid not-FF7 stuff like time jannies and alternate dimensions.
Why would you want that? It isn't good right now. More of it won't be better.

Every FF has unnecesary party members though but really you could not find Vincent or recruit Yuffie and the game doesn´t really change at all. If VII was released today they would be DLC. (and that can still happen for R).

I don´t really know why people say this. VII original story is completly ok and makes sense provided you take the time and find the hidden extra chunks.

Have you seen Kingdom Hearts? I'm not interested in more story from Nomura.

It doesn't matter does it? We have to eat the shit they serve us on a plate anyway.

No one is forcing you to keep buying the next parts. I won't.

I know you are just shitposting but that is honestly the only thing I am kinda not sure about.
They didn´t do anything too drastic yet in my opinion, Zack still looked like he is gonna keel over dead any minute.

How am I shitposting?

looks like you better spend another $60 to find out!
