Holy shit your headphones must come with rose-colored tones to be able to ignore how shitty the majority of English VAs are.
That's not to say that a lot of JPN VAs aren't shitty too, but they're not shitty in a way that my brain can automatically understand so I'm cooler with that.
Legendary
Dubs are fine if, and only if, the in-game universe is explicitly Western themed like Hellsing or something.
Hearing Japs pronounce English words is retarded and breaks the immersion.
I listen to all game in their original, intended language because that is how it is meant to be listened to.
This
Also english dubs in general sound like dog shit, there are some games that don't suck but any JRPG is definitely worse with english voices
Hearing garbage ass voices breaks the immersion even more
It varies from case to case, the original language is the authors intent most of the time, with Westaboo exceptions, which is why it is favoured, but sometimes the choice of VA can be ear-grating, regardless of language and sometimes it is not even the actors fault but the directors making a conscious choice.
Just going "JAPANESE GOOD" or "ENGLISH GOOD" are both ignoring the individual performances of the people involved (Writers/translators, directors and actors) being what actually decides the quality.
Based and sensiblepilled
To me it's just that Japanese voice actors are better at inflection and such. They have better training. Even if it doesn't fit, you can tell they're better.
>nee butchie
>AYYY TOYOTA BUTCHIE
fucking died laughing
kinda agree with that. DMC and Resident Evil are better with their English voices. But for most Japanese media, it's original voices only. There is also the thing with Japanese games spending more, sometimes much more, for Japanese voice talent and only a fraction of that for the English and other voice talent. The quality difference then is enormous, and you can hear it. On top of that, Japan has a sophisticated and diverse talent pool of voice actors with tons of new talent as voice actor is a respected and coveted profession there.
Post characters superior in the Dub.
>voice actor is a respected and coveted profession there
Wasn’t there some big deal a while back of voice actors in Japan barely getting paid?
Sorry user, I only deal in absolutes.
Aren't VAs in Japan treated pretty much as underpaid prostitutes and some of the successful ones started out voicing squealing hentai girls?
yea upcoming new talent doesn't get paid much, doesn't change the fact that there lots of new talent
yes because they have lots of competition. People who write music for anime and games aren't receiving great pay or recognition either, they work in a different system. But things are starting to change there too as things get more international.
jap voice actors are actually good and have a big range of voice, this is because voice acting in anime and games is actually huge in Japan. In the west these VAs are just rejects basically the niggers of the VAs. The same goes for vidya journalists, have you ever wondered why are they so bad?, the west doesn't care about videogames as much as japan does.
>play Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner
>find it funny how bad the English VAs are
>find it so funny I almost don't want to install the undub mod
literally my exact reaction to sekiro
Well, then i can give you one of those, but you might not like it.
All voice acting is bad because it wastes funding that could gone to other aspects of the game with very little gain and can arbitrarily limit player agency as they would need to record lines of every single character having a reaction to every single potential choice and routing or downplay it and have them not react at all, ruining the illusion of impact, it also limits the ability name characters and things yourself because you get the FFX "you"/"Him" syndrome.
This is actually also Circumstantial since not all games are about MUH CHOICES, but you wanted a absolute and here you go.
ITT: EOPs talk about something they know nothing about.
VAs in Japan are about 75% looks.
The only time I've ever favored the English dub is with Metal Gear Solid. The Japanese voices are great but I still feel like the English dub fits better.
Western women can't do teenage voices. It is just horrible.
But it will continue until dubfags die.
A lot of english dubs are fine, but there are a select few that I can't stand.
I really did not like the Odin Sphere dub, that one stands out to me. If a game defaults to dub I will only change it in specific circumstances (I previously played the series with JP audio, or a major character is voiced by a JP VA I like), otherwise I just stuck with it typically. But that one I really couldn't stand.
いえ
>I noticed that they have some attractive famous VAs so I'm going to make a flat generalization
This. If the game takes place in a Western environment or clearly draws from Western themes it's English for me. Playing Ace Combat, Odin Sphere, or Resident Evil in Japanese breaks immersion massively.
