The definitive way to play CTR is the original with the online multiplayer emulator.

More realistic graphics doesnt make it "better graphics. The original has a completely different art direction which is enough to justify playing it. Zoomzoom.

I played RE when it was the only one for the ps1. At some point later I played the directors cut. I played REmake when it was new.

Years later I replayed RE directors cut once and REmake about 5 more times.

I really do think REmake replaces the original. The original is worth playing once for the live action stuff and just to be able to appriciate REmake more.

But for most people. I would tell them to skip the OG or only go back once you played REmake just to compare.

REmake is designed in such a way that you can play the original and still appreciate the remake and vice versa.

Sure, what ever way gets you to learn what doors need what keys. Thats the most important thing. More trips through crowded areas because you forgot what key is for what door is the biggest cause of death.

The original is more challenging, faster-paced, has more story/event changes based on your actions, better music, and a better intro. REmake is still a classic in its own right though, and is still the best remake of a game we've ever had.

You might not like the direction the original takes, you might even prefer the oh so serious approach of the remake. But doesnt replace the original at all because its not the same thing done better. Its a different thing, that yes, in many things is better. But its a different thing. And so it doesnt replace the original.

Zero Mission might be the only case of "replacing the original", just because the original Metroid has so much fucking tedious invisible-shootable-block hunting required for progression.
But even then it's got some weird divisive additions/alterations and loses a bit of the "hyper heroic 80s camp in extremely hostile territory" vibes the original had.

REmake absolutely does not replace the original. They're both good. But they're very different entities.
