Every new AC is fun for a few months, but the Gamecube version is timeless and permanent. No online stuff, just a complete game, perfect, plus it has acres and viking hats.

You're correct

Im new to AC. How does the game work? Can i just play it at my own pace, or am i gated by what other players are doing and whatever nintendo puts in the game via events?

Best soundtrack of all the AC's, hands down.

I'm with this guy, I don't want to get the game now but can I just play by myself or do I have to play with others?

I don't mind connecting online for event date locks to happen in-game

Does it emulate well on dolphin being dependent on the gamecubes internal clock and all?

That's the pure essence of this series. You play at your own pace and schedule. There are holidays and events but they are announced on the bulletin board. Its all up to you. Play for an hour or just 5 mins. That's what makes it a special series.

Is AC the type of game where you only want to play it once and not back to back? Kind of like Sims or Rune Factory?

Es AC el typo de juego en que solamente lo quieres jugar una vez y no espalda con espalda? Como Sims o Rune Factory?

I was playing it in anticipation for New Horizons and I miss how a lot of the 3D models were textured with pixels. I get that times change, but I feel like it fit the game much better. Everything is round and bubbly now. But then again I have a sweet spot for anything textured that way.

Yeah it does just make sure you dont use save states or it will fuck with the clock. Dolphin relies on your OS's time.

Even the custom designs get filtered to be rounded

AC Switch: You're gated massively for the first week. You're only able to "unlock" parts of the island/critical NPCs based off an arbitrary time gate made by nintendo to pad out the beginning and forcibly add a "sense of progression."

Certain events are time based (Fishing tourney once a quarter) and require no internet connection. Other events (Easter) are time restricted and require an update like an MMO to access.

GC animal crossing: No gating from the beginning. Events are similar to the pattern above but don't require an internet update and are based entirely off of the gamecube's internal clock.

Man that looks really comfy.

Eso se mira muy comodo. (no idea how to translate man)

It's choppy and broken on my default settings didn't try to make it work. Need to find the best settings for it to run. It loads at least so that's that.

>You're gated massively for the first week.
Genuinely what the fuck are you talking about. You have access to every tool but the shovel on the first day.
If you're talking about the pole vault/ladder, who gives a shit - the only thing you miss out on by not having access to the full island is extra rocks to smack.

Forgot to add: If anything you're time-gated harder in the older games by that definition since getting the rod, net, axe, watering can and shovel is behind a RNG roll per day.

I can hear that tv.

>You're not gated at all bro!
>Can't access store for 2 days
>can't access the entire island for 3 days
>can't access non-shitty tools for 3 days
>Can't access complete museum for 4 days
>Can't access hourly music for an entire week
>can't access Abel Sisters for 1 Week~10 days
>can't access KK slider for 10 days minimum (with autist grinding/abuse of Amiibo )

>>Can't access hourly music for an entire week
for real?

I thought the horns we're supposed to make the player some kind of weird animal. As far as I remember, you couldn't get rid of the horns so I always thought they weren't part of the hat, but part of your head

It's works

Nothing will beat the Gamecube one. They don’t make games like that anymore

>who gives a shit
People who want to place houses in areas that require them or explore the entire island.

>No online stuff, just a complete game

If you're implying that the gamecube game is superior because it has no DLC or doesn't have to patch in the events, let me remind you that the reason for this is so someone can't come throw snowballs at me in july if they time travel to December. If the OG Animal Crossing in your photo were made for the first time today, they would implement the same online features and online patching of events. In any case, both AC and NH are great games, why can't we appreciate and enjoy both? Why must one be superior to the other? you can't really compare them anyway, seeing how far apart they came out.

>Can't access store
Timmy and Tommy are there the entire fucking time, sorry you can't buy a kitchenette to shove into your tent.
>can't access the entire island
Again, why does this fucking matter?
"Oh no, I can't pluck and sell the remaining 5 gorillion weeds on the second tier for another day, what a nightmare!"
>Can't access hourly music
It sucks but it's because there's no town theme to ring between hourly transitions.
>Can't access complete museum
>can't access Abel Sisters for 1 Week~10 days
>can't access KK slider for 10 days minimum
Did you forget that the game is set on a deserted island retard?

Psh, it only lasts like 40 minutes until you beat it, don't fucking lie

youtube.com/watch?v=Lq85f09rxbA

>backpedalling from "It's not timegated" to "IT'S ON A DESERTED ISLAND!!!"

oh nonononono

I liked how you could collect and play a ton of different NES games.

Just time travel then retard. This game obviously not for you.

You're wrong and right at the same time. It's not the only great game. Every single fucking animal crossing game is timeless. They all follow the same great formula.

>Villagers used to poke fun at you

I miss it bros...

Wow you're really sucking that New Horizon dick aren't you?

City Folk was absolute shit. I went back to WW almost immediately because of how shit it was.

>Animal Crossing started on the 64

What the fuck no one told me. Is that still playable or did it age horribly liek Syphon Filter?

The hard truth a lot of people don't want to swallow is that the original game runs dry at some point just like all the others and has overall less content despite the quirks that are superior to other games (that's what makes it really "timeless" in some ways though). What really baffles me is that NH actually brought back I think the most of these little quirks out of any of the games after it, or have a very close analog, but people do not acknowledge it or nearly as much as they should. I think even though NH has the slowest start of any AC game (not even a bad thing) it's by far the fastest paced after the first week and a half, which may be a detriment to long term play but by sheer content and daily tasks it has way more daily time not taking into account nook miles stuff. People need to not be so hard on the game because it's done way more right than wrong and every AC game has cut something somewhere.

It's only in Japanese. The Gamecube AC is an enhanced port with additional features (like the NES games)

Okay. By this logic then the Gamecube game timegates you the hardest by making you wait a fucking week at minimum to be able to do all the fundamental core shit that actually makes these games remotely enjoyable like fish or chop trees. But hey atleast you can enter an empty museum fresh off the train and wait 7 days instead of 14 to get K.K Slider songs. Glad we could have this thread, awesome conversation, go fuck yourself.

The release we got on the gamecube is pretty much superior in every way to the N64 and the initial Japanese GC port which came before the version we got. Only reason reason to go back and look at the N64 version and the GC before the English localization is to experience the Japanese exclusive events.

Crafting is unwelcome bloat, tools breaking can fuck off and golden tools breaking needs to be removed immediately.

Oh dang so then do I start on the DS one first or the GC one first?

Crafting is fine but I agree with golden tools breaking. It's such a waste of gold.

>No gating from the beginning
I take it you haven't played GC in a while. You have to wait until each tool becomes available to buy in Nook's store before you can use it, you have to wait to get a letter from the Faraway museum before you can do anything with fossils etc. You can't do much of anything on the first day in GC.

No real reason to ever play Wild World imo
Might be wrong, I've never actually played it, but it seems like a very toned down handheld version

>No real reason to ever play Wild World imo
How old are you?

You can't do shit for the first few days of NH. At least you have more than 2 villagers (with actually interesting dialogue) to keep you company.

Old enough for the DS but I never got into AC until New Leaf

GC for better music, better holidays, better comfiness, better maps (fuck rolling log) best villager dialogue

DS for more villager options, more customization options (clothing particularly as GC is rather limited) and more furniture sets

Both are pretty great. Avoid CityFolk.
