How do you like to build your main character in games?
I like to have long range attacks like geomancy in ff tactics.

Tricksy support types that can deal decent damage too.

I hate missing out on dialogue options and observation checks and similar stuff so I make the MC the party face with high mental stats and speech/diplomacy/whatever

bump

Magic Knight. That way, I won't get screwed when there's a need to fight physically or with magic

Depends what they're good at. Ramza here has a number of unique properties:
>both male and female stats (ie good PA and MA growths)
>cannot leave the party for having too high Faith (useful) or too low Brave (use a throwaway unit for finding items, this would be a waste)
>access to Scream

His Squire magic growth is also unnoticably better than most classes but who cares. Anyway, he makes a good caster of Faith-using spells, which include most magic descended from Chemist but not some other forms of magic like Samurai and Geomancer. He would have decent MA to use with those anyway, though.

Ramza can also be made to abuse the hell out of Scream, which boosts your PA, MA, SP and Brave. He will grow quadratically due to escalating SP increasing the rate of growth over time and PA can be used as its own weapon multiplier if you choose to go unarmed, which is another quadratic growth Scream could abuse even more - every Scream increases damage more than the one before. This method is often players' go to but it takes a while and will powerlevel the SHIT out of him in a way your other units can't keep up with.

In short I prefer caster Ramza. It's less swingy and plays better for the party.

I like whips

either full talky who has to survive by the skin of their teeth in any combat, or full strength chad dumping everything but raw damage

>yes now instead of a good physical attacker or a good magic attacker you have someone that's mediocre at both

I like evade tanks, but there are so few games where I can build like this. I love oracles in tactics though

Beefcake support unit ever since Ness in Earthbound. He basically gets turboleveled in the game ahead of everyone, but he's such an absolute god at healing and buffs that he can drag the entire rest of the party kicking and screaming through death, 3-character wipes and beyond while being a juggernaut himself.

I like big crits with big weapons

>A jack of all trade but a master of none is better than a master of one.
- Bruce Lee

Depending on the game, I usually go God Hand, motivated sword, or full dakka.

*gets one shot by the unga bunga STRfag*
*gets outmaneuvered by the DEXfag*
*get overpowered by the INTfag*
*gets blocked by the CONfag*

Depends on the game, I generally go for a rogue/assassin of some kind. Ragnarok online was one of my very first online games... and the fast big crit numbers were like crack as a kid.

>a thread died for this
Somebody at least post pictures of agrias or something.

gish setups are often pretty broken in a lot of games, I think ones that reward hyperspecialization are the absolute minority.
1.5*1.5>2.0*1.0

elemental weapon damage, buffs, self healing, damage amplifications, etc. are usually worth a small dip versus more raw stats

I like to do this too, but I always end up with a slightly bigger focus on the physical attacks because they don't cost mp.

If its a game where he can add elemental affinities to his weapon, then he's outright better than a regular physical attacker since he can deal bonus elemental weakness damage that will overall result in more than what a normal attacker could put out.

I like to use the weakest build possible and beat the game with items and cunning.

>slow and tanky but can dish out serious damage
>dodgy DoT specialist
If i can't do either of those then the game is shit and not worth playing

Imagine this scenario
>you are a MK
>then suddenly there is a STRfag running at your general direction with a gigantic fucking hammer or greatsword maybe both, one in each hand
>you know that you could cast a spell to attack from distance but the STRfag could evade orr sponge your slow and subpar telegraphed magic attack and one shot you with his massive fucking weapons right afterwards
>once the STRfag gets near to you is over, your weaker weapon damage won't even dent the sheer armor and HP of the STRfag and won't break his hipper armor either
what can you do to prevent this?

Not him but a STRfag would not be capable of dodging, and would also have shit magic defense, which means that he'll take plenty of damage from magic.

But what if the STRfag just so happens to have a shield that greatly resist magic? they have those, you know.

If possible, I like being the healer or support character. If that's not an option, then the tankiest character. Being the main source of damage just makes me panic, and I have more fun managing my other party members.

you buff yourself and your weapon and beat the shit out of him while dealing defense-ignoring elemental damage that he can't block and his armor doesn't reduce
extra spicy: you whip out your flat-scaling oolacile catalyst and one shot him with dark bead as soon as he gets within ten feet
what fantasy land do you live in that minmax gish builds don't curb stomp pure martials?

If the STRfag isn't two-handing a big weapon, his attack power isn't even going to all that high.
What if the MK casts a spell to increase his speed? Then he could evade the STRfag's attacks.
The MK could also potentially have spells for buffing defense too.
What if the STRfag is wearing armor that gives him an elemental weakness?

There's too many variables to this shit, and its not onesided at all.

>implying a MK could one shot anyone with that subpar mixed INT stat
I believe that from a pure mage but not from a MK, meanwhile the STRfag do one shot anyone that isn't a CONfag and even then the CONfag will eventually lose to the ridiculous DPS.

there aren't any games that actually have that outcome. in tabletop D&D/infinity engine games, ARPGs like dragon's dogma, janky bethesda games, dark messiah of might and magic, and a hundred other examples using magic is objectively better than not
I struggle to think of any games that do have magic and character customization where you want to have NONE

i dont play jrpgs with self insert trash sorry

>pic

this looks like a faggot

JRPGs

he isn't a self insert but okay
That's just his appearance in the first chapter.
