So is this worth playing? I've only ever played the SNES FF games and I like them enough. What's the best platform to get it on.

PS1 FFs are good, get 7 and 9 on PC

Pc with this forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=19204.0

this guy has good coverage on many FF ports
youtube.com/watch?v=dckf-r8seks

for ff7 you want to emulate it because the pc port requires so many mods which make it a pain in the ass. either emulate or mod it.

the others are playable but eh... and yeah it's worth playing

captrobau.blogspot.com/2019/05/remako-mod-version-10-released.html

NO.

The game have shit pacing, everything between Midgar and Meteor materia temple fucking sucks.

Absolutely, get the PS4 version if you have one.

Obviously motherfucker, it's one of the best JRPGs of all time

I tried it and the lame ass story made me drop it, I can't do it.

do not listen to this guy

If you liked the SNES FF games, you'll like this one. Emulate the PS1 version, I don't suggest mods for your first time through.

If you like jrpgs, sure. Lot of good music, materia/leveling grind is good, writing is decent for a final fantasy.

Play it on emu or switch imo.

Didn't they release it on steam?

yes?

Best JRPG of all time. Get it on PS4 for the x2 speed boost to speed up grinding

yeah 7 and 9 are good
takes some patience
maybe emulate or play the pc ports so you don't get optical media load times

FF7 was never my favorite in the series but the remake has made me appreciate it a lot more

it's up there but there's a few better titles
like dark cloud or suikoden 2 or earthbound or different ff titles or chrono trigger or lunar or xenosaga or tactics ogre

Literally all the ports are terrible

Emulate the ps1 version at native res with a nice scanline shader

Give the game a chance and finish it until you leave midgar.
If you like it, play on.
If you don't, don't bother, just stop at that point.

>or earthbound
fuck off

it's one of the best games ever, but it didn't age exactly well. if you can't get past the graphics, the translation and the story at times, it'll be a no go. as for which version to get stick with the Switch/X1/PS4 version as they have some modern quality of life fixes and cheats while not doing a butchering the original game like the rerelease of VI and VIII

This seems like a decent enough thread to ask.
What emulator does everyone use? ePSXe?
Do I still need to fish around for a bios?
What are the mods people should try out? I know there's a couple and one of them alters the difficulty of the game to make it more challenging?
What about the mods that upgrade the visuals?

>xenosaga

PS1 emulated. The PC version's mods look like shit, the "new" models don't even mesh right with the backgrounds in terms of size. It looks all fucked up. Plus sharp polygons on top of low res backgrounds looks like shit, but the whole thing being low res makes the pixels blend together which makes the whole thing cohesive. I say "emulate" so you can fast-forward random encounters which are boring and mindless.

>Never fixed the music
Cringe.

>suikoden 2
I see this game recommended too many goddamn times. what am I in for if I play it? really like strong character development and story in rpg's over anything else, btw.

I use mednafen but retroarch is the best way to emulate ps1 games.
emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Mednafen

I think the mod you're thinking of is called new threat
two texture mods have been mentioned in this thread
theres this too
forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0

My personal choice is RetroArch with the beetle PSX core, but RetroArch can be really annoying to learn how to use, so PCSX-R will suffice. This should be the version you need.

ngemu.com/threads/pcsxr-pgxp.186369/

The best mod manager you can use is 7th Heaven 2.0, the old version of 7th Heaven is awful and every previous FF7 mod manager is even worse. The HD Remako mod is probably the best FF7 visual mod. It upscales the backgrounds with AI machine learning and the results are better than you'd expect, sometimes actually really good. Using the "catalog" feature in 7th Heaven 2.0 makes it really easy to download and install mods.

Yes and no
>ff7 has some plot holes
>most overrated ff in the franchise
>turn based (i'm not a fan of it)

>thy try to fill the plot holes
>great graphics
>kino
>300h game (if u sum up all ff7 parts)
>pay 60 4 times

both have its good and bads

Cheers, bro.

Cheers to you too. And people say Yas Forums is full of nothing but negativity.

this mod removes battle shadows since they look buggy as hell
dropbox.com/s/26e7n8d7jwyew5x/Kage.dat shadow mod for FF7 removes battle shadow.zip?dl=0

try the first one
108 party members
some battles are 6 party members, some are one on one duels, some are wars with hundreds

Steam version has a lot of QOL mods
Switch one is easily pirated and has built-in cheats
Either is a good choice unless you're a ps1 purist

No problem. Though if it wasn't obvious by my post, 7th Heaven and shit only works for the PC port of the game.

those people are the negative ones

Honestly FF7 is one of the most nostalgiafag games of all time. Baby's first hero's journey.

THAT BEING SAID, even the FF7fags didn't deserve what was done to their favorite with the demake. I am unironically, sincerely sorry.

BULLSHIT
>nibelheim mansion
>fucking cid
>gold saucer date with barret
>the entire coral plot twist
>all of cosmo canyon
>the wutai part
>trying to breed chocobos for the kotr summon
>junon barret scene
>icicle inn snowboarding

I figured. Still, it wouldn't hurt to learn and decide which I feel like trying.

yeah just play the PSX version on an emulator or the steam release

game is literally one of the best jrpgs ever made and the best part is it isn't even very fucking long. It probably will take you about 40 hours on your first play through.

FF7fag here. my copy of the original didn't evaporate with the demake release, no need for pity.

FF7s plot holes are so inconsequential to the entire story and mostly revolve around the turks who are literally goofy team rocket characters anyway.

It's not overrated at all i'd argue it's very properly rated as it's easily in the top 3 of the franchise.

>hundreds
fucking kekd
if you like strong character development then suikoden II is not going to scratch that itch, it's a good game but it's easy as piss (can auto attack to get through anything with the occasional heal) and the characters are pretty blank

Does anyone know if the battle start swirl effect is in the PC release? I feel like it's missing but I haven't checked.

ikr, I can't stand when retards act like a remake/remaster destroys the original in any way
this pretty much.. I mean plot holes are in every fucking game
