After Nibelheim incident, Hojo experiments on Cloud by doing the usual SOLDIER Mako infusion procedure on him, but because he's testing his Sephiroth Clone theory, he also injects him with Jenova Cells.
Said Jenova Cells cause Cloud to go braindead, making Zack carry him to Midgar until he kicks the bucket from being shot in the back just at the edge of Midgar, the army grunts leave Cloud for dead since he's braindead anyway, but Cloud manages to regain little bit of sanity and drag himself to Midgar where Tifa finds him and nurses him back to health.
Fast forward AN ENTIRE FUCKING YEAR and Cloud is with Tifa and Barret on the opening Bombing Mission.
He's fully recovered by that point and a full year passed since he walked half-braindead into Midgar.
He's not supposed to look sickly you fucking tard.

This shit is your literal headcanon fanfiction and it's never stated anywhere in the game or the Ultimania.
In fact it was explicitly stated in both FF7, Ultimania and Crisis Core that the reason Cloud goes braindead is because of the Sephiroth Clone process of being injected with Jenova Cells.

Numora thought the original director was still the director while he was just someone on the team. It turns out Nomura was the director and the director had moved to the role of producer. Everyone knew of their roles but Nomura, who for some reason was the only one who didn't think it was obvious he was the director. It's literally in an interview about Nomura and what's his face talking about it. Going by that, we can assume it was after Nomura realized he had full reigns of the project that things started changing.

G-Cells are the modified Jenova Cells that were inserted to Genesis and later transplanted to others to make Genesis Clones.
It's not until Genesis is wounded in his training with Sephiroth that the problem is revealed.
Turns out the genetically modified Jenova Cells inserted to Genesis cannot regenerate, which is why his arm wound doesn't close and why he starts degenerating, and the same starts happening to everyone that were injected with the G-Cells.
It has nothing to do with Mako you secondary pleb.
