I genuinely think he never wanted to do the Remake in the first place, and he didn't care a massive amount about it. The man clearly still wants to do Versus-XIII and Square aren't letting him.
Go look up the FFVII staff credits. He's actually credited as coming up with the original plot together with Sakaguchi. There's also interviews where's talking about doing things like pushing for Aerith's death and telling Kitase and Nojima (the main writers for the game) that their idea to kill the party was dumb and not to do it.

Well, I dont know what to say. As I said, some of the changes I really like, like Jessie, some character interactions, showing the clones early.
