There are at least two moments in Aeris' very limited dialog in the original where cloud wants to protect her and keep her from doing things alongside him, and she expresses that she doesn't want him to do that and can handle herself.
It's true to the original. This game looks fucking terrible IMO, but that's a pretty fucking normal thing to say.
