I know there are other threads about this game, but I need one to talk about the battle system.
I really dont understand the battle system in this game(im playing on normal difficulty). For example, one of the first merc missions has you go after a mutated dog, that has an unavoidable attack. It jumps at your throat and disables that party member. what the hell am i supposed to do? In sector 5 slums, when you fight rude, he can bull rush you and grab you, its fucking unavoidable. What the hell do i do against enemies like this? I still beat these encounters, but its incredibly annoying to chug potions or blow all my mp on healing. what the hell do i do to telegraph shit like this? I use assess on each enemy and use magic for their weaknesses, but their attacks come out before im done casting a fucking spell.
Ff7r shitty battle system
also, is it just me or is party ai braindead? They barely build up their atb gauges
Its not a kingdom hearts
It is not a XV
do whatever you would have done in the original.
Learn to pressure/stagger.
They try to encourage you to switch characters often. You can get a materia later in the game that speeds up party ATB.
>pressure/stagger
Imagine bringing back that shitty mechanic from XIII
It's not an action game, it's possible that not all attacks are telegraphed and you are not expected to dodge everything. Pretty sure neither Rude's attack nor the dogs one shot you. Switch to the other party member and start healing or try to get the dog off by attacking it.
so I guess I'm going to have to play through this and just accept the fact that some faggot enemies have unavoidable fuck you attacks? what shitty design.
the XIII battle system is unironically one of the good parts of it
there is literally nothing wrong with pressure/stagger
Have you ever used the Block button?
poor zoomer cant dark souls roll to win
Barrier might work? I never tried it so not sure
you are right, they dont one shot you, but they do disable your character or interrupt your attacks/magic.
that reminds, what the fuck is up with interrupting? monsters will interrupt my braver ability, but I can wail on their face while they are casting fire and it wont stop them. fucking bullshit
Not OP, but I think Rude's grabbing attack still gets you even if you block it.
Im pointing out that you cannot roll to dodge those attacks. Ive tested it out, they hit you 100% with those attacks.
Yes, Lightning magic for example cannot be dodged.
You can only interrupt with their weakness I think
You can't avoid grabs by blocking, you dummy.
>but they do disable your character
that's when you switch to the other party member
>monsters will interrupt my braver ability, but I can wail on their face while they are casting fire and it wont stop them
You can interrupt monsters attack too by pressure/staggering it.
>You can interrupt monsters attack too by pressure/staggering it.
I know this and try to exploit it as much as I can, whats incredibly annoying is they can interrupt you with regular bullshit attacks.
How were you supposed to fight Rude, anyway?
What do you mean?
I have no fucking idea. I assume you should perfect block his melee attacks, but there is no hint or warning of them coming out. Then he starts blocking everything in the second half of the fight. i just continued to cast cure with aerith and accepted the fact that this is a retarded fight.
Isn't he weak to wind? Just spam aeroga with Aerith using the double cast circuit and once staggered go to town with Clouds physical abilities. Never stop casting aeroga.
Just wait until the fight in chapter 17, that was the most tedious.
he is weak to wind, and guess what, he blocks the shit out of it in the second half of the fight, stopping you from staggering him.
He can't block when he is attacking Cloud, and I know for sure he isn't just standing there blocking the whole time.
>Just spam aeroga with Aerith using the double cast circuit
oh man that brings up another problem with this game. If you dont know the enemies weakness beforehand, you might not have it equipped before the fight.
I did have wind materia on, but it was on cloud
>I know for sure he isn't just standing there blocking the whole time.
he will stand there, but as soon as you attack his guard comes up
Yeah you're kinda fucked in that case, gotta restart or tough it out. That's why I try to keep every element equipped all the time across all characters.
Just like in a turn based game game, even tho it's an action game, damage seem to be unavoidable. Like there are enemies that all luck down on you all at the same time and no matter where you run to or roll you just take damage.
Yeah I also don't like it and I don't even know where the hate for turn-based combat comes from. People often say it's braindead but then again those people probably only ever have played pokemon so what the fuck do they know?
