why is bethesda incapable of creating a story that actually makes the player think? They have progressively gotten worse with each game. Each one seems to be designed to just give you a power fantasy.
>Oblivion: You are the chosen one. Well, kind of. You are the chosen one who helps the chosen one. Now go save the world from bad guys.
>Fallout 3: Your dad left you to help savages. Find him and kill the nazis.
>Skyrim: You ARE the chosen one! Now go save the world from bad guys.
>Fallout 4: Your son was the chosen one, now go find him. Kill everyone along the way in this story that makes about as much sense as a bad episode of The Twilight Zone.
>Fallout 76: ERROR
The only thing bethesda seems to be good at is making the worlds look pretty and giving the player a lot of freedom with the look of their character.
When are they actually going to hire some good fucking writers? Is Todd to blame for this?

>Kill Caesar
>nothing changes, nobody cares

Cool story.

Meh. 4 was actually fun, it's what the attempted with 3 but failed so hard. A braindead game where you can just fuck around in
>brainlet alert
It's outright stated the battle of hoover dam wont be impacted much, if anything, might spur the troops to fight harder, but that it will fuck up the legion in the long run since they'll fall apart without his leadership

nobody gives a shit about stories in bethesda games

They're not incapable, they've just gotten lazy because they know retards will buy their shit no matter what, so there's no reason to put effort into it.

fallout 4 antagonist is elder maxon

fallout 4 doesn't have an antagonist because they wrote each faction to have some bad qualities but also some good qualities.
i don't think i ever found an explanation as to why the synths kill entire settlements in my playthrough, and you'd think there would be a good explanation for something like that.

I don't know man the Institute are clearly the bad guys here

in fallout 4 you can barely kill anyone

Does your son really say "You wouldn't understand" or is that a meme?

The institute is clearly the only sane people around. I played and finished this insult of a game only once and it was for the institute. Don't understand why would anyone side with "brotherhood" or the fucking railroaders.

>plays beth games for the main quest...

I don't remember exactly but he doesn't give you much in the way of explanation as to why his synths go around pillaging. All he says is how they tried to help the commonwealth so many years ago and it backfired so it made him a sad boi :(

It's a shame the game was so poorly written, institute could have been great. Their underground base was also underwhelming as fuck

I don't recall him saying so but that meme comes from the fact that the Institute does a lot of shit they don't even have an explanation to

Because the Institute are creating literal human beings and using them as slaves, that's the whole fucking point of them

You can side with yourself

shoo coomer, shoo

>literal human beings
That's where you're wrong, bucko.

>Todd?
No
I think its a case of the guy writing the stories having ideas that would be better put in other games because he has no interest in writing for a Post Apocalyptic Story. He cared a bit for 3 because it was a new challenge but had 0 for that when he got to 4. Take the story for Fallout 4 and change it around, only a tiny bit so that its story takes place in a different time and setting, and it would fit.

You can't do that with the other games because they inherently have their stories built for. The guy even did a Panel a few years back and stated where the whole inspiration came from because he's a sucker for conspiracy theories, the theories in general and the affect it had on people. He was more interested in writing what interested him at the time, topics like conspiracy theories, are androids people, etc. Things that most people already thought about or have seen media in some way and form do and he didn't do anything interesting with the topics and themes he decided to do.

that's one of the biggest things i hate about fallout 4
the institute is hyped up to be this evil secret society of scientists with super advanced technology, yet when you meet them they turn out to be a group of college nerds who descended from SJWs. They did so many bad and murderous things, yet when their faces are revealed they're literal "DUDE TECHNOLOGY, LMAO" idiots.
and then your BABY, the very INFANT that the INSTITUTE took from you, the fucking TODDLER that you spend half the story missions looking for, is revealed to be the INSTITUTE'S leader... because reasons.
Bethesda seemed to be dropping the RPG elements to make a heart warming story about a father blasting through the apocalypse to find his son, and they failed at even that

they are machines with self-awareness that can do everything we can the only difference is that they are made of a different material than us

>No-no it happens bro. Just after the story, trust me
New Vegas has just as bad of a story as 3 and 4

What do you mean they dont explain the Synths? I gave up shortly after I met Nick. The world and story was just boring.

>Nothing changes
Didnt you play new vegas, did you?

>New Vegas has just as bad of a story as 3 and 4
Caesar's death impacts the endings a lot if you side with the Legion, they also explain that killing Caesar won't stop the assault at Hoover Dam and that the Legion doesn't see Lanius as good of a leader as Caesar was

i don't know what you expected or what you wanted the game to do

>What do you mean they dont explain the Synths? I gave up shortly after I met Nick. The world and story was just boring.

The problem with the synths is that they are literal human beings but the Institute treats them as if they were slaves because THEY made THEM, which is bullshit because by that same logic Shaun is your slave because YOU made HIM

it's also bullshit that they don't explain why they create robots to do slave work when there are already robots that do that job, it's like they created a coffee maker that not only can refuse to do its job but it can also grow legs and run away from me, they have failsafes in case they run away but they are clearly not working since there is an entire faction made of them that rescues other synths

>New Vegas has just as bad of a story as 3 and 4
new vegas does not revolve around you being the hero, it revolves around the choices you make
in fallout 3 you have no affect on the story other than killing everything. In Fallout 4 you're an established character because you have a specific voice and background. Both shitty RPGs. Both are mediocre stories to follow.

Go watch Ex Machina or something. I don't even want to respond to this.

if they are not born like us, they cannot be treated the same.
the clashing of the two would result in one or the other being annihilated.

>if they are not born like us, they cannot be treated the same.
Then the game should've addressed that they are making machines that are capable of doing everything a human can do but are also more durable and more intelligent since they are self-aware machines

Synths are literally clones of people, they even use them to replace other human beings, the game is fucking stupid with this and only wanted synths so they could have "muh slave metaphor, and also Blade Runner" because they are creatively bankrupt

for all the shit people give to the Legion at least they were original

If you say so brainlet-kun

you see that big section of the area west of the dam? that was suppose to be his area with different camps but it got cut.

>Synths are literally clones of people, they even use them to replace other human beings, the game is fucking stupid with this and only wanted synths so they could have "muh slave metaphor, and also Blade Runner" because they are creatively bankrupt
this has bothered me from the start
the game implies that synths are slave labor, but you don't see any of it. It makes absolutely zero fucking sense. Why would the institute use emotional androids as slave labor? You would NEVER want your slave labor to be sentient and self aware. They could have just modified some Mr. Handys for fuck's sakes.
Fallout 4 has some of the weakest factions i have ever seen in a video game. They all have the STUPIDEST ideals. None of them are believable and it seems like bethesda didn't even try to make them believable.
>Minutemen: Let's, uh, just build stuff lol
>Brotherhood of Steel: Let's take technology from people
>The Institute: Let's, uh, just make synthetic copies of people and kill settlements for no reason lol
>The Railroad: Let's give everything human rights because muh feels

They are just ideas from a hat, everything in FO4 is like they made a total of one brainstorming session and nothing else
