they've been trying to tell us half lifes are not just to be released just to be released, only when they have something innovative to offer. at the same time valve said they had no interest in releasing a main story HL game that is VR only. so if it's definitely going to be on PC, what innovative things need to happen before we get HL3?

A console with SSD.

it will be VR, they can't innovate with keyboard mouse gameplay after HLA

Rubikon thermodynamics simulations

>what innovative things need to happen before we get HL3
Technology has significantly stagnated, but so has Valve, so that's not saying much. The only game since that's blew me away with physics was RF Guerrilla and that was 11 years ago.

Doom Eternal proved to me that there's still a lot you can do to make first person shooters engaging that we haven't touched yet. Maybe not so much that would work for half-life, though. HL never really fixated solely on twitch shooter gameplay.

That said, I liked HL: Alyx but having had some time to chew it over, it left a lot to be desired for me as far as a half-life game. The tech is impressive, but if that had been a continuation to episode 3 I probably would have felt cheated, as the only interesting narrative moment that happens is in the ending, the weapon variety is slim and samey, and enemy variety has barely changed since episode 2. It's a really cool, well-polished game and I want more but it definitely wasn't the "wow, VR games can be even better than PC games" moment that was alluded to.

gonna guess that HL3 is gonna have some implementation of neural interfacing except it works in desktop mode, since they are already looking in to that for VR and that's all we know, plus Valve have shown their good for porting their ideas between projects.

See you in 4 years at best! If not 13 years again.

>> Caring about this fucking travesty of an HL game that shits on its past.
Half Life died for real. This is valve shitting on its corpse.

Was anyone else hoping for a little more portal showing in HL: Alyx? Russell was obviously an attempt at bringing some of Portal 2's comedy into it but I've been wanting a half-life game that brings some of portal's tone into the mix since I played the original Portal. I was hoping Episode 3 with the Borealis would deliver on that.

Did the original Alyx from HL2 visit the vault? And then just forgot who was imprisoned there for 3 games?

I dunno, just make it metroidvania and I would suck dick like I always do when game is "metroidvania"
>Metroid: Prime
>Dark Souls

I think if we can get some significant advance in AI, that the console CPU can handle, that might just be enough to push it forward. Not sure what the AI would be used for though - enemies is the obvious choice, but I dont think that's revolutionary enough for Valve, maybe in story design or something

Why do Vortigants give a shit about THE Eli Vance, when he literally did nothing for them, at least Alyx freed some prisoners

I dunno, maybe he visited xen or some shit

Nobody wants to make little mutts with your mistake.

>are they... milking him?

Her memory of being abducted by the gman in black mesa was erased and this one definitely was too

>play Alyx by myself
>get to this puzzle
>remember WAIT A MINUTE THAT CARD and laugh
>have friend over to play Alyx
>he seriously couldn't figure out this puzzle
>even when i tell him look the answer is LITERALLY CIRCLED FOR YOU ALL OVER THE WALL
>just end up telling him which buttons to press
jesus christ

He probably established peace with them after Freeman freed Vorts.

So Gman just let her go that time, and after episode 2 reconsidered and returned to the vault to say Gordon failed

Look Gordon, ropes.

Was there any mention of Gordon freeman at all in Alyx? Like a future shot of him running, in black mesa, or refering this scene at all? Was he still a legend?

literally your goal in the game is to rescue Gordon Freeman

Dont see a circle user

Do not touch.

Eli figured out who was in the vault, he should have done something after Alyx returned from it in the original timeline

Wait, isn't the game about Alyx's life starting the resistance before Gordon even arrived? Wasn't Gordon pulled out of storage by the Gman and put on the train for Hl2?

>Alyx's life starting the resistance

lol no

>the person who voices Dr.Coomer is a literal tranny.

I was confused and surprised.

i sort of lean on the theory that what happened in HL: Alyx was simulated. It's not like it'd be out of GMan's skillset.

fucking what? goddamn trannies get in everything

Shame. I did some reading and found the basic plot of the game, But what exactly did Gordon fail at doing? In Hl1 he stopped the invasion, in Hl2 he destroyed the tower, and we didn't see what happened in episode three yet.

>that the console CPU can handle
Valve doesn't care about consoles, i.e competitors, anymore

>what exactly did Gordon fail at doing?

refused to work for Gman

he did take the crystal sample from gman and proceed to cause the resonance cascade by testing it, resulting in freeman entering xen and killing nihilanth, thus freeing the vortigaunts
