I played it and beat it on the original Xbox. I really liked it. The complaint when it came out was that the enemies are stationed in one spot so if you die to something you resplendent and no exactly what to do. I really liked it.

The game's flaws are far bigger than that. Even if you remove the context of its release by ignoring HL2 entirely it still has way too many flaws to be considered anything but an ok title.

Im pretty far in my first playthrough rn and my only gripes with it are the puzzles like why have them in a doom game ,reloading takes for ever and that 80% of the time you open a door some fuck is ready ro jump out at you itd be fine if it were once every 2 or 3 levels but no it happens at least 3 times per level

I liked it but flashlight problem aside, it was a bit too slow and easy. It also wasn't scary or "atmospheric" enough to be a good horror FPS. Also some of the gun sounds were kinda shit. And fuck hunting for PDAs for codes. But despite all that I still enjoyed it and it was easy to mod so I had lots of fun with it.

People usually complain that it's not as fast paced as DOOM and focuses too much on being a horror game than an action game. Also some of the guns are really shitty like the shotgun and chaingun.
